That would have been great too. Have 12 new Hydra-ish bosses that players need to form a group for and then farm for the piece.
This sounds a lot like the relic reborn quest. chimera, hydra, ifrit, garuda, titan. do the same thing times two or three for atma? the current atma quest is at least different than the relic reborn quest.
It wouldn't be the same as the item wouldn't be guaranteed. Besides that, how is spamming fates over and over again new? Most of us did that 10-50 on a lot of our characters pre 2.1.
Also, if they wanted low level fates repopulated, they could have even made it to where the new "boss" fate wouldn't spawn until a set number of other fates in the area were completed. So, you'd have to fight through the others for a chance at downing the boss that drops the item.
i never said grinding fates is new. I said at least this is different than the relic reborn quest. don't put words in my mouth. as to your suggestion, how is that any different than fate grinding? have to complete a set number of fates in the area before the one fate you needs pops... I see all sorts of complaints with that suggestion. and I can see all sorts of problems of having to do something like hydra, chimera, ifrit, garuda, and titan over and over again to get rng to give you what you need. isn't that the overall argument against rng in the first place? It wouldn't be the same as the item wouldn't be guaranteed. Besides that, how is spamming fates over and over again new? Also, if they wanted low level fates repopulated, they could have even made it to where the new "boss" fate wouldn't spawn until a set number of other fates in the area were completed.
at least with grinding low level fates you're guaranteed success and all you have to worry about is rng. if you change the atma quest to mirror relic reborn quest but add in rng instead of a guaranteed drop... you now have to worry about success AND rng. that'll take you even longer to get the atma you need.
and while waiting for fates to pop is not fun... waiting for parties to form or waiting on the duty finder is still waiting and equally not fun.

That would have been great if there was some non-annoying way to implement it. The only downside to that is the dreadful strain it puts on forming parties. Perhaps make the majority of them 4-man battles and like the last 2 Full Party fights.
The regular Relic quest was fun to me in the sense that it challenges you with actual content, 2 trail battles and 3 HM Primals. But thanks to the crying from the KMMO fans, we're stuck with the oldschool cheap method of just sinking 100~200 random hours into it.

I haven't played anything yet today. When you say the quest involves old fates, are they high level fates? Or, are they fates you have to level sync for?
All fates and yes level sync ones that remove your Shield/Sword oath so you have to put it back on off on off.
