A lot of noise was made to have something like this. It was given, only they're adding it in their own way tedious content that you're not required to do. Have fun!

B. played for the first time on an old system(s)
C. Took a year or longer to do.

No matter how it's done people will make noise. I honestly believe this "challenge" was born due to all of the resentment for 2.1. Each thread clamoring for open world stuff, clamoring for a return to something similar to fates.. And yes clamoring for lower guarantee's for a drop. OCD is quite rampant today, it's entirely optional bu- oh wait I forgot after you patch the game someone puts a gun to your head and makes you do this first thing.
I digress I am all for a lot of what people wanted an though this is not exact it does mimic the thrill of trying to achieve something. Grinds are a grind end of story. They are never fun, they are always tedious..ALWAYS.
I don't think the guys fishing for Lu shangs/trying to defeat Maat on all jobs (for a cap!)/getting every achievement in 360's FFXI were sitting there grinning ear to ear whilst doing. People need to get over it.

So correct me if I am wrong, to upgrade the relic it cost MYTHOLOGY, and MYTHOLOGY no longer has a cap right? So literally we get to just kick everything's ass til we get it? I see no issue.
or difficult for that matter. people are missing the point. This is supposed to be the easy part of the quest.
aside from that, people wanted reasons to be out in the world. No one had a problem with this in FFXI when people killed lizards in the dunes for hours on end. Same principal really except you weren't looking for a reward, you wer ONLY leveling up at that point.
This is how RPGs were since time began. Grinding for leveling (or over leveling). This is how most mmo's are today as well. They have to strike a balance between tedious and quick. If they dont, these forums is what happens.

Coil was grindy and time sinkish, leveling is grindy and time sinkish. All of gaming is grindy and time sinkish. The only difference is perception. I mean look at Diablo 3. The game is time sink personified and people love that game.
I agree with this, they should've put more thought to this but as Lord said, definitely a step in the right direction. Long term goals and not having people just sitting in the cities, it's a good start.
Would be nice if you could get a buff for your other classes that would allow you obtain Atma while leveling them up off Fates, but as it stands the quest requires you to have your Relic+1 equipped the whole time.
I agree though, new fates would have made more sense. As it stands I feel more like an archeologist sifting through old dirt to try and find some dinosaur fossils that may or may not be there.
It's not that I forget, it's just that I don't care.
