Monk should be more rewarding

I'm not a summoner but I'm just wondering if any smn's pet does blunt damage that can work as a good combination with monk?

Ifrit. At least that's what's I saw the SMNs say on their thread.
They seemed pretty sure about it, but it doesn't matter too much until they buff Ifrit since he's inferior to Garuda on any real fight.
