Please do not let this be the start of a clusterfuck of abilities over my bars. The toggle was easy enough to use....
Feels like an unnecessary change to me.
yay another thing that the development team is screwing up. great job. please please give us tanaka back.

Why does it make sense to have two spells that do the same exact thing? Please explain your post, because your reasoning is lost on me.I hated almost everything about XI except for the FF cannon. So no, I am not a masochistic XI player. It makes sense to have different types of spells with different properties and functions rather than just make a blanket copy of each and hope it works.
Removing the AOE toggle is a huge step in the right direction towards making casters (and the UI) more efficient. Thank you SE!
The current system does the same exact thing as your proposed "-aga" spells, except that it's easier to manage on the fly (I want to switch the spell that I have selected to AoE 'cause 3 of my party mates just got hit by a piest's breath attack? I HIT Z! Wow, that was so effing difficult), and it compliments the action restrictions that we currently have on all of our characters. This isn't even factoring in all of the menu clutter that we'll have by having one more of every single spell in our skills list.
Your idea is completely unintuitive, and is a step BACKWARDS.
exactly further proof that the development team we have in place now are completely lost and in way over their head. they don't care if it is a step forwards or a step backwards as long as they are changing stuff. Why does it make sense to have two spells that do the same exact thing? edit: it's almost to the point of putting out a petition to have yoshi removed as head and the entire team fired as they have proven they have lost direction of what people want out of a game. they even make polls for us to comment on and then ignore the results of them because it is not what they want to do.

Sucks to hear this. I'm starting to think that Matsui isn't creative at all...or maybe is a man with closed mind to new things...he worked in FFXI, liked it so he cannot deal with anything different than that. Its not that hard to adjust current things instead of removing everything.
At this pace soon enough they will decide that Lalafats are too short for the new battle animations so they will remove them from game too... :/
+1. This messing needs to stop. If the battle team can only deal with FFXI battle system, then go work there and leave the spot for some open minded battle team that can try and understand this game's current system.
You're indeed a poet! ^^ 100% agree with you.

The toggle works fine. Why complicate things?
No, they're just catering to every idiot with an account. If I make a thread that says "I HETE HP BARS, IT MAKES THE GAME 2 EASY KUZ I CAN SEE WHEN IM GUNNA DIE", it would get probably get support from all of the other masochists, and eventually get some sort of dev response.
This is the problem with official forums. Even the most incompetent players have a voice, and if they're a loud enough crybaby they'll end up on SE's radar.
This thread has a handful of supporters, and everyone else is tearing their argument apart, but because it's been at the top of the "active threads" list for the last couple of days, it is actually being seriously considered.
SE, this thread's OP doesn't even have a valid argument, please stop and READ the entire debate. There are so many cons to reverting to an XI style system that it's silly. If you ARE changing toggle, please consider IMPROVING it, not REMOVING it. The fix all to every single "issue" (I consider this particular case a non-issue) should not be to REMOVE, but to IMPROVE it.
Of course, Bayohne's response could have just been an STFU to this thread's supporters, since it sounds like this change may not happen for a very long time.
Agreed.

If they decide to make a single target version and area attack version of every spell.... sounds like my poor tiny action bar just got a lot more cramped.
I'm going to assume the dev team has a good reason and an even better replacement for toggle. The toggle was a good, easy to use feature. I'm hoping they something equally as intuitive and easy to use ready to replace it. I also hope the dev team has the sense to share a little more info with us to subdue the impending shitstorm.
