Wait, you are giving your commend to the guy that has no clue of the place, over the guy that DOES have a clue and is spending time helping out the new guy?
Oh man imagine how screwed over he'll feel when he doesnt even get commends for it. Great idea if you dont want knowledgeable lvl50 tanks in your low lvl dungeons.

Hahahaha, I do the exact opposite, anyone that is chatty in any run, I make it a point to not give them a commendation, even if they did really good. We're here to clear a dungeon, not to make friends. If you wanna socialize, there's always facebook. A ton of us play this game cause it's a Final Fantasy, not to be social and make friends. We shouldnt have to deal with distracted party members just cause they dont have any friends in real life.

Multi-player doesnt translate to social, it just means multiple strangers can play together online. This game is designed for both, those with friends in real life and those without. Those of us who arent desperate for social interaction shouldnt be slowed down by those who require others to enjoy an awesome game.

Regardless of whether I'm dpsing or healing, I give them to Bards. Bards first, other DPS second, Healers third, and Tanks last. When I'm on my Bard, I get almost zero commendations; people just lazily give them to tanks and healers, even though the tanks and healers have instaqueues already, and aren't doing their jobs any better or worse than DPS is.

Well, if I were the new person, I would be giving the commendation, as I said, that's first if I'm new. Although, honestly, I have not encountered both of those things in the same dungeon. I put the new person first only because when it has happened like my #1, there have been multiple people giving advice, usually including myself. Why should only "lvl50 tanks" be knowledgeable? And if the new person fails to execute well, it also goes to the advice giver. I've given more to high level tanks probably than anything else individually overall in any case. What is your problem with me? I feel like your response was unnecessarily aggressive. I didn't even know the commendation system existed / I didn't notice it until someone gave me one at my first Copperbell run, so, if a new person performs exceptionally well, perhaps if they receive they will be more likely to give as well?

(And why respond to mine and not the people going 'tanks last - they get enough'?)

Tanks get a commendation if they keep threat, position correctly, keep a steady pace, dodge, and use cool downs properly.

Healers get a commendation if no one dies unless the tank pulls more than their gear allows or the dps die due to standing in aoe or eating cleaves.

The highest dps get a commendation if their dps is appropriate for their level/gear and they don't die to aoe or cleaves.

I give commendations to DPS who do the thing right over Tanks and Healers who do the thing right. Not trying to be mean, but Tanks and Healers get the heart default like 70% of the time and DPS need some good lovin' too, y'know? I get super excited when I get a heart as SMN. Just sayin'.

But if the DPS are slacking, not willing to learn, suck at positioning or what have you, it's probably going to the tank or healer. And if the healer is a SCH, it's definitely going to the healer (because I'm a bias'd arcanist *fist bump to all the single arcanists out there*)

    1. Whoever is the friendliest (unless they are messing up their job catastrophically). Being friendly in a group should be the default behaviour for every single MMO player, but for some reason, it isn't, so I reward it. Conversely, even the most flawless, breathtakingly superiour player will not get a recommendation from me if they are an asshole.
    2. Whoever held their own best in less than ideal situations. Like, say, a pull goes haywire and AOEs fly everywhere, but the healer keeps everyone going without a complaint. Or someone accidentally aggros an extra group and the tank just takes them on like a champ even though they already fought something. Or the tank dies against a boss, and the DPS takes over for victory etc. etc.
    3. If nothing stands out at all, I prefer giving it to a solid DPS or a Tank. DPS rarely get recs, and tanking is such an extremely stressful thankless job.

I have no problem with you at all! I just felt that the one giving the advice should get the commends. Personally i prefer not giving it to new players, but to older/geared players as they are the ones with the most dps / knowledge about the place. About the tank part i meant that it's best to keep the tanks coming back for more, as they are the least played and will get people faster queues. It's a little annoying to mainly queue up to help low level people, give them advice on what to do on each boss then not get any 'thanks'. That happened a lot. I was just curious about your reasoning, i certainly dont have anything against you.

I have to say, after reading all the comments here, it did make me change the way that I approach when I vote the last couple of days. I am a healer myself mostly, so I don't get short of votes, but I do try to pay attention at whom in DPS that require less attention from me and able to dodge AoE; bard that uses ballad accordingly; who volunteers to use AoE at boss fight to ensure victory; tank that are willing to explain things to new players.

Overall, there are many criteria that are worth to commentate, and it might be different at different situation, but I like to choose the person who make it easier for everyone - whether it's gameplay or attitude.
