So I decided to join a Crystal Tower run in progress and they were already at the last boss. Few words were said upon my arrival. After the run however I experienced something that will more than likely never ever happen again.

dps almost never get mine, usually it goes to the tank IF the tank 1) held aggro, 2) didnt dance around like a tweeker in need of a fix, if the tank fails to do both then it goes to the healer, unless he let everyone die numerous times then i give it to the dps![]()

The thing is, I rarely commend tanks anymore. It seems everyone wants to commend them for holding aggro, and as of late, that is really, really easy. Many will blame DPS when they fail to do their job (I have run into tanks who will not tank adds in areas they ought, or they mark a target as 1 and go on to attack something else...) Healers of course are a consideration as they tend to keep everyone alive, and can add some lovely DPS if they understand their class. DPS? Well, most people won't commend them since they are 'face roll' easy (So are tanks guys) But... if I notice they are doing proper rotations, keeping DoTs up and dealing with mechanics properly, they get my beans... I mean, commendation. Whoops, wrong game.

I wish there was a way to give commendations when joining an instance with a light party. I play tag team with my hubby and 90% of the time we do events together, which seems to cut me off from commending people. Those few times I do the duty roulette alone (i'm not a cultist of the WeeklyTomeCap god, Twelve forbid! ), I appreciate a relaxed and positive attitude; and people who do make their best effort, rather than sit there pressing 1 2 3 cause "that's the best rotation". things can and will go arrayit's part of the fun. what we do with it makes the difference.
When i started as WHM on FFXI a decade ago and my back-then mentor introduced me to XP parties, he advised me to ask myself if there was anything else i could do to help the party. if the answer was no, then i was doing my job properly.
I find myself still using the very same meter today, so I appreciate and reward anyone in party that shows that enthusiasm the most
don't end up like Avere. Cherish your healers!

That will always be a problem that plagues MMOs no matter what. Tanking oft feels unrewarding to the player, and many people get a strange satisfaction out of large numbers and killing things. Of course, there are also players that get the same satisfaction from having a rather hefty pool of HP and mitigation... Having tanked for about five or six years in MMOs now, I have seen all sorts of things. Reactive tanking (Blissful) Proactive tanking (When done right, blissful) Tanks that can deal damage, and so forth. FF14 tanking is easy, and often seen as boring which is why I feel we may not see many tanks... But I digress. Commendations going to a tank because they are a 'rarity' is a farce when many will play a tank just to farm for the rewards.

I agree. I encountered a good guy (as in, one that is good at their role) but can't commend because I was in a party with my friend.Suggestion for the commedation system:
If you enter an instance with your FC members or premade you cannot vote for eachother and that is fair enough.. but.. you cannot vote for ANYONE atm and i don't think thats fair on the other members.. for example, me and 2 other FC members went to CT together.. I recieved 2 commendations from the DF members but i wasn't able to commed the Main Tank who did a good job..
Can you not make it so we are blocked from voting for out premade but able to vote for DF?
this will probably not be seen, would love to see some feedback on it though
They really deserved a commendation

I give it to the player in the group who stood out to me as doing their job the best. I base it on performance, not role.

People who have multiple jobs: does it seem like some jobs are easier than others for commendations? I have been leveling my bard and it seems like I get at least one commendation each run, even when I don't think I did anything particularly noteworthy.
