Unfortunately you broke rules that you were not aware of, that fault lays with the group who set the rules. Sadly there is not really anything you can do about your reputation except be clear that "hey I did not know until after the fact". Then again they can argue you should have asked. No win situation.
To some reputation does matter. Besides the person you ninja looted from could have been after that weapon for as long as you have. As I never have done coil I can only guess that there is need greed pass like any other dungeon. Passing on something you need is a hard thing to do.
Doubt SE will change things because in the end it is you the players making these choices on wether to stick to agreements or not, and they probably could care less about a players gained reputation for being a deal breaker.

Huh? The resentment towards you is justified as you did not uphold the agreement and even "fully aware of what I was doing". Don't ask the game to make adjustment so you don't get responsibility for your actions. I agree with you on one thing, you are nasty.
Ok so I edited my previous post, which is it? You were unaware of the rules? OR You were perfectly aware and looted anyways?
Always roll need if you need so that is an error on their part.
Even though the game doesn't enforce rules agreed upon that is still no excuse to break agreements between players. To some extent it is left up to us to police ourselves. It is a matter now of how badly those other players will trash your reputation, go too far then who knows maybe SE will spank them for harassment. Only thing you can do is repair your rep yourself.
There is no easy answer for the situation you find yourself in now, I think posting on forums may be only hurting you more as you are trying to justify what you did. May been better to just say hey I feel bad I did this even though ninja'd player should have rolled need.
I am finding in at least lower level dungeons everybody is rolling greed on loot, at least on the sellable stuff. That said roll need is probably being used to acquire stuff repeatably for gil.

People are stupid. The need/greed/pass system is really all thats needed what the hell is with these "special rules". If you need it, need it. If ypu want it, greed it and pass otherwise why does there need to be some stupid house rules?
If they put a "rule" about no need so everyone could greed and accest that item. Some people go as other jobs to fill in and they can't need the item they want. You said you greeded without knowing the rules but you also said you were fully aware of what you were doing so which is it?
Perhaps the OP is proposing a system similar to WoW's master loot and the subsequent spam of /random
Then again, even that system could be easily abused (e.g., master looter ninja loot for him/her self.
They probably were going at it for a while or knew each other. In my opinion your were ok, I personally dont accept rules that are said after the loot drop. Is always a good practice to ask about loot rules when pugging and abide by them. I think they were bad for not explaining to you but as a proactive player is good to ask too.Okay so they never said anything about loot rules UNTIL the loot dropped, and AFTER i greeded it. the person who was SUPPOSED to get the sword was the Tank who mains a tank, and could have needed on it. I was aware that I greeded on the item. I wasn't aware there were rules.
I love the official forums, they tell you to use the search for thread about what you wanted to talk but when you use it they judge for necro a thread.
If this was a PF group with the rules listed, then that's your fault. Also special rules agreed upon in advance, can be punished if broken. Most would consider joining a PF group with the rules listed as agreed upon in advance.Okay so they never said anything about loot rules UNTIL the loot dropped, and AFTER i greeded it. the person who was SUPPOSED to get the sword was the Tank who mains a tank, and could have needed on it. I was aware that I greeded on the item. I wasn't aware there were rules.
If not however, I see no issue, as annoying as it might be to some. Well personally I'd have asked before hand if it was ok to greed.
