The reason they took out elemental weaknesses is because in 1.x everyone and their mother rolled thaumaterge and used nothing but thunder because nothing resisted it.
Also you think blm as is would even be allowed to do Ifrit when their strongest attacks are fire spells?

This is exactly my point, they should scrap it in it's entirety. It makes no sense whatsoever killing Ifrit with Fire based spells.

Stop using ARR and 1.0 as examples, use earlier FF games and basically any RPG with elemental affinities and they handle it with much more finesse than this game

I have been taking a break, for a month and a half or so now, I previously only logged on to level my chocobo, customise our house and talk to my FC and friends. I just recently took initative to unsubscribe my account.

I still want to hear about this game and if it will become something I'd enjoy, but until then I have no plans to come back to the game.

Okay, so if they remade blackmage and just had it do elemental damage without the umbral/astral crap, what do you think would happen? "LFM Ifrit EM 3/8 need five blackmages"

I just wish there was more solo content. Not just farming and crafting, but maybe daily solo or dual instances that could get you a mark or drops. They are improving things you can't argue that. (Maybe ships you can travel on from area to area where monsters spawn or pirates that board the ship and you have to fight them. Maybe fishing you can pull monsters from the ocean to fight.) ahh the memories!!

The reason I rarely log in these days is not because of the content or any if the problems listed by the OP. No, I sparingly log in for one reason only. The crybaby players who play this game. FFXIV:ARR was a great game, until the FFXI refugees poured into the servers en masse.

What have they done you ask? They are trying their damnedest to turn FF14:ARR into FF11:ARR. I hated FF11 in every way possible and the players who love it so much that they want to turn this game into a clone; should return to FF11. The servers are still up and running.

FF14 would of been a great game and a better game had the players from FF11 stayed where they were.

btw, you forgot XIV 1.0:

Aggro sound = use walking to get past mob.
Aggro sight = run behind mob.
True sight = has wider visible range.
True sound = will hear you even if you walk if you are quite close to mob.

It used to be a great challenge tagging an aether surrounded by lvl 99 mobs. lol
