"You pull it, you tank it" is a golden rule, make sure you let them know what happened once they died, too.

Tanking requires some responsibility and knowledge. As a melee I often go in blindly and just don't care, because I can follow the flow, dodge stuff and dps, it's easy enough.

As a tank, I have to know the fight from a different view than anyone else and there's always something "more" I'm expected to know for the fight not to fail. It's fun to me, might be a chore to others.

I think this is the real problem.

When the game was designed, the devs already know, for a fact, that in such a combat system (tank-heal-dd), there will be a lack of tanks even with WoW's 5-man parties. And they go ahead to maintain the 4-man party size.

WoW had already proven that instant queues and needed-role rewards don't do anything to address the lack of tanks. Even in the monkey-tank-all style that WoW has presented. Now look at FFXIV where there are no aggro thresholds, no fixate upon taunt, no I-pawn-everything AoE skills that you can use in your rotation without worrying about resource. And it's only reasonable to see a further drop in the population of tank players.

People won't change. If anything the solution to tank shortage lies with game design.

To answer the question as simply as possible: No one tanks because tanking requires EFFORT.

If by effort, you mean *slightly* more than is required for DPS jobs, sure. It does not require more effort than healing, and it certainly amounts to no effort when compared to tanking anywhere else. You can literally tank in your sleep and still get most things done.

I would like to see you tank Garuda EX, Titan EX, and Ifrit EX in your sleep. And Turn 5 while you're at it.

There's another reason why no one tanks: If I go as my tank into CT, I can't Need on anything other than tank gear. So I go on my BLM, because what I need in CT in BLM gear. The only time I bother going to CT as my tank is when people in my FC need a tank for CT and I can be certain they will let me Greed on things I want.

There's barely any randomness involved. I can tank Garuda EX and Titan EX barely paying attention, as I've done them a ton of times and I know their whole pattern. As for Twintania, I unfortunately do not have as much experience in it yet, but it's all a matter of time.

As much as those fights might appear hard, it's all a matter of getting down their patterns and your answer to each of their move. Once you got that, they become extremely easy, due to the whole fixed pattern thing.

it's weird but I enjoy tanking more than playing dd. I'm not so good in dps lol.
But still I like both tanking & dps. That way I can observe how other play their class & learn from it.

Well actually its kinda true about the bad mouthing Tanks, I have seen it first hand in CT and myself been called out but I did what he accused me not doing, Like example whm told me to flash I did like 3-4 times and said sorry but not before he called me names, another time I seen bad mouthing in CT where this sch called all the tanks retards on Acheron fight only cause he got caught by a claw but nobody could get him out in time it was either run to circle or wipe we chose circle he called all tanks stupid.

Then last but not least my favorite, whm who let me die and I asked why didn't you heal me? They said maybe you should dodge more, I pulled the add off whm and tanking boss at same time we win, then bad mouthed me saying because I cant dodge hits I suck haha well that's my job as tank let it all hit me, its their job as healer to keep me alive after I explain this they said no its not my job which then I ignored.
