Why no one tanks...

Tanks are treated horribly in this game. So many self entitled kids that run in and face pull everything, you pick it all up, use all your defensive cooldowns and die cause the DPS is auto attacking.

Then said DPS complains for 30 minutes about the tank being bad, and gets you kicked from the party.

It's not anymore boring than any other role.

IMHO, the reason no one tanks is because it's a zillion times more responsibility than everything else, PLUS you have to manage both players and monsters.

Had my tank jimmies rustled for the first time yesterday in a CT run.

My tank is i76, not great, not bad. (For CT anyway)

We get to King Behemoth, someone claims Iron Giant, which I generally do, since people cant hold it still.. then I notice the other tanks are all at towers.

I've never tanked King Behe before, and my gear isn't where I'd like it to be to do it.

Scholar runs in and pulls KB, all the DPS go full attack, and I realize that the only tank left is me.

Rather than let me get hate and drag it back to the wall, everyone spams their head off, provoke and halon are't pulling hate while Behe ping-pongs around.

I finally get hold of Behe, drag him to the wall, by then 2 healers are down, and I get little to no heals, I die, we wipe.

Then people ask what happens, and the other healer in the party that pulled Behe starts flaming me for not learning how to tank, i should just uninstall, yada yada yada.

Spent the rest of that run doing pretty much nothing.

I'll gladly tank anything you want, but please for the love of god, dont go all out if a mob is running around loose.

Spent the rest of the day on my Brd going pew-pew without a care in the world.

ok jokes from The Office aside, I personally just don't like Paladins. Wars are ok but I didn't like the look of their armor/AF. I will most likely play a tank with a new class/job when it is eventually released.

And in terms of self-entitled players with poor attitudes, its always Tanks (or whatever job in the game is needed most). Typically (not always) people that choose the job that is the most needed are usually the ones with entitlement issues. Granted there are exceptions, but they are the exceptions that make the rule.

I'm a tank but I agree on the poor treatment thing. It's almost discouraged me from the role several times. Tanks set the pace of a dungeon run, are expected to know more about fight mechanics, and a large number of the fights put a disproportionate amount of responsibility on the tank. If you lag while DPSing, you often die. But if you lag while tanking, the WHOLE GROUP dies. From my personal experience, it seems like I can do a great (though less than perfect) job as a tank and I'll still get insulted. I'll play a healer or DPS job though and I can watch TV while smashing buttons or lag out where I'm not even doing anything for 2-3 min and nobody even CARES! LOL

I don't think tanking is boring, or at least it's not any more boring than the other roles, which could all use a bit more interesting skill rotations. Just my opinion though.

I was a PLD main in FFXI for 9 years, loved every minute of it.

PLD was my 4th 50 here, and I don't intend on using it often, too many trolls and critics.

If I screw up, I'll own it and move on. I don't need 20 mins of verbal abuse from some guy because he feels important.

I can always pew-pew on my brd, play songs as needed, and no one will harass me. (thank Altana I don't lag and can dodge red circles.)
