Tanking can be intimidating sometimes. I usually tank in all MMOs I play and it can be quite stressful. Granted I haven't really healed much, but I'm always grateful to a good healer, they are my lifeline. DPS does need to make sure they deal damage quickly so the encounter can be over quicker and the tank doesn't take too much damage. We all play our parts in the battle and if any part of a light party dies, you do can feel the strain. That being said, it does feel like a lot is expected of a tank. You kind of become default party leader as you dictate the order of battle, or at least try. You have to keep a keen eye on the entire battlefield and ensure you get the right mobs, know which mobs to ignore, etc. To the point that walkthroughs feel mandatory for even a first pass. I haven't really gotten farther as any other role, but I do wonder do DPS and Healers feel the same way in their progression through the game?
I main an i90 Paladin, these days I only play it for FC stuff and raids.
Rest of the time I just play my i83 monk for roulettes/random groups, because I can't be bothered with people anymore. Playing DPS is relaxing and no one tries to pin blame on you when they screw up![]()
Real answer: Because they didn't make it faceroll enough to pickup/swap/hold aggro
Fake answer: It's not fun (linked to real answer)
Bad answer: Because people pick on me
Worst answer: Because healers suck
Possible alternate answer: Because they tried too hard to force tank swapping in everything with a badly designed hate swap ability and 2.5s gcds.
Aggro can be fun for tanks, but it's not fun for the whole group and that's why it was made easier in certain other mmos at some point. Overall, it eventually pulls in people more afraid to play tanks if the main job of a tank is less strenuous to perform as well.

Tanks are the masters of all humanoids. They are the superior beings of the world.
You will be shown no quarter.
in all seriousness though. Tanks who can't handle criticism shouldn't tank. Put people in their place, and tell them what the deal is. If they can't handle a wipe tell them to abandon, and get it over with. No need to be all touchy feel

^ No need to be rude to people either.

I think the issue is not constructive criticism, it's just criticism. I have no problems with letting people give me hints and tips about tanking an upcoming boss. In fact, my first time in a dungeon, I flat out ask "Ok, whatcha want me to do?".Tanks are the masters of all humanoids. They are the superior beings of the world.

The problem is what that picture represents. People not following the kill order, getting aggro, then dying, THEN proceeding to say the tank sucks blah blah blah. Tanks have no issues keeping hate on a bunch of mobs, but if you for a second you lose aggro, it's like the apocalypse to the DD. They need to relax, and realize it's no big deal.

Assumption, and likely as not, false in many instances.
Assumption. Although anecdotal evidence, I've run into very few people under 18 in this game.So many self entitled kids that run in and face pull everything
Find better people to play with, or kick the offending DPS.you pick it all up, use all your defensive cooldowns and die cause the DPS is auto attacking.
Again, find better people to play with. Why are you sticking with a group when someone is such a verbal abuser? Then said DPS complains for 30 minutes about the tank being bad, and gets you kicked from the party.
There are many threads about why so few tanks exist in this game, but I don't think you've really added anything to the discussion overall with this new thread. I don't think there are many tanks in this game because, as others have said, it's not a very interesting job. The new 2.1 content changes that up quite a bit, but that's only 4-5 fights out of the myriad in this game.
Also, I'd say a lot of people don't like the pressure tanking brings. There's much more responsibility on a tank than a dps, which is why the ratios are so off.
