Commendation System: So who get's your vote?

I normally try to give it to the person who earned it. Since I'm tanking 99% of the time (ilevel 90 PLD working on gearing WAR now), I can't really give it to tanks obviously (I do CT usually in FC parties and if I duty roulette story dungeons the other tank is usually under geared). Normally I check the two DPS to see who is killing the right adds and see if they are pulling extra adds, also I check to see if healer helps with DPS during the easy pulls and stuff. I also have to see their attitude, if they are polite, and say hi, that's a plus; if they are rushing and complaining about other party members, they will get no commendations.

Also I will NEVER give commendations to people that ask for commendations, especially if they ask right at the start of the dungeon before we even do anything.

My main class is DRG, but usually if I'm playing an instance on that role, I'm part of a pre-made group, so I cannot give out commendations. Though one time when I was doing DR Praetorium, I'm pretty sure the other Dragoon and I commended each other. Only commendation I've received as a DRG. I also got one as a THM. The rest of mine came as a CNJ/WHM.

Playing as a healer who mains a DPS class, I usually pay attention to what the DPSers are doing. Especially if they're LNC/DRG. Do they keep Heavy Thrust up as much as possible? Attack the right targets? Avoid AoEs? Chances are they'll get my vote. Harder to judge the ranged DPS. If none of them stand out, though, I'll give my vote to the tank, assuming he/she wasn't an idiot.

Also add me to the list who wants to be able to bestow commendations while in a preformed group. I ran WP as a healer for the first time the other day with one of my FC buddies. Awesome tank. I told him at the end that I would have commended him if I couuld.

I vote DPS because I feel their pain. Unless they are just awful.

People who do their job well, or they did something to save the party's downfall. I try to refrain from commending those who simply fill the chat box the most. Of course, if it's helping someone who's first-timing or constructively solving a conflict that's different, but I won't commend b/c you say "Hi" and "Good Job everyone ."

Maybe someone is first-timing a dungeon or primal but they still do their role well. That's a definite commendation imo as well

Playing as a healer who mains a DPS class

I do this too when I'm on my WHM but my main is Monk How is his rotations? Is he/she keeping DK and Twin snakes up? Is he stunning when he has he chance? etc.

People who have multiple jobs: does it seem like some jobs are easier than others for commendations? I have been leveling my bard and it seems like I get at least one commendation each run, even when I don't think I did anything particularly noteworthy.

Weird, usually DPS get much less, on my Bard I only got one and it was when I explained all the battles in Cutter's. Tanks and secondarily Healers get them by default usually, in fact I got all the rest on WHM. Though I have to say I always run bard at least with a tank friend, if not with 2 persons, so there's pnly 1-2 persons in the run who can commend.

Also, I like explaining bosses, but do you guys still really get new people in DF? I always get veterans or something...not much to explain there.

So do I Just yesterday I had a new Bard in Stone Vigil when I was levelling my DRG and I took to explaining the mechanics and bosses and the Bard expressed how grateful he/she was for the help, but not even one commendation at the end of it all lol.
It's hard for DPS to stand out in an instance unless your helping explain bosses and mechanics, obliterating bosses and mobs, not getting hit and managing to stun everything but even at that some people just default to commending tanks and healers anyway :S

I don't usually commend people who are jerks, but I don't see why someone talking to you has anything to do with how they play their class. Did the person play their class better than others or was it a toss up? If I see a melee dps dodging effectively and using a solid rotation then I am happy. I am even happier if the dps know the run and make a point of being on point. Yes, the tank should be controlling the pace, but the tank can only make go0d judgments on said pace if the DPS are performing well.
