I haven't heard this before. Curious as to where you've heard as well as if its personal or FC housing. Also have my doubts because SE probably doesn't want to force this on anyone to access new areas for future contnent especially if its so expensive.
Because gathering and crafting in this game are so complex....its repetitive and boring. 100 million gil worth of boring.
In what world is grinding gil any form of achievement? And this is from someone who actually likes to craft and sell, I just don't want to be required to do so full time to play in a sandbox segment of content half a year from now.

Honestly im kinda happy, you want housing now ? buy the cheep housing. you want the best ? then you will have to work for it which is something 14 needed, this is what relics should have been. in this game everyone has the same gear, its super casual its not even funny at least finally the hardcore players have something to work towards and will obtain way before casuals.
In most modern games getting the field to build the house is quite cheap (and even free in some cases) and most of the content consists in getting the furnitures/materials to build stuff. Basic materials are cheap and you must work hard to get the high end materials. In FFXIV case the actual content of housing (eg getting materials/furniture and putting them together in your house) is gated through money (I really don't understand how people can actually find that enjoyable/fun).
Good luck on selling stuff if the housing prices remains the same as they are now. The impact on the economy should be major.As an avid crafter and gatherer, I disagree completely. Remove Gil from the game and I'd actually cancel my subscription right away, a MMOs economy is a major part of the experience for me.

Sorry OP, this won't breath new life into the game. I think it will lean toward people considering looking else where for entertainment, that helps neither side. The days of MMO exclusivity are over, the sooner you get with the program, the better off the majority of players will be. As of now, you support a system that only caters to a few and pretty much promotes RMT as a viable option now.
In UO (the first MMO I played with housing) you didn't have to be Nelson Rockerfeller to get a house. You had to go the backend of nowhere to place it and to visit it, but it was yours. And it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Guilds (FCs in XIV) could buy bigger places, but the cost was immense compared to a little place for each player. Plus in your tiny hovel you could sit and craft in safety, and if it was in a mob zone, change jobs and head out to farm materials. It was a marvellous concept. Why has SE got XIV housing so wrong?
I'm just a bit blindsided as a small house was supposed to be something 4 players were meant to afford if they saved their money leveling to 50 so I figured we were good on at least the smallest house >.>;
Is the max size of the interior based on the plot size?
Housing was basically the only thing that interested me on this game. The art direction is amazing and all, but everything I do here I can do on every other MMO, and housing, which is something that should change that, is just a big and bad joke...
I guess I will unsub, please look forward to it...
your reply does nothing to change its a straw man argument that should be dismissed. If you dislike that way things are that much then you and a few other should just unsub. the vocal minority can go on believing it was right and the rest of us will still be playingIn most modern games getting the field to build the house is quite cheap (and even free in some cases) and most of the content consists in getting the furnitures/materials to build stuff. I actually didn't wait your reply and already did it. But my decision is more based on the let down of 24 players raids by SE.If you dislike that way things are that much then you and a few other should just unsub.
Give my opinion any name, it doesn't change the fct that the current housing system is plain unfun and retarded.
