I'm looking forward to housing

I love housing, but the price for my server is just ridiculous. 20 million for a small piece of land? 250 million for large? Even in games like lord of the rings online, they made housing at least affordable! The most expensive kinship hall in that game was 20 gold, which if you go by digits, would be abut 200,000 gil in this game. I don't know anyone on Balmung that carries around 20 million gold. Let alone 250 million. As it stands, housing on Balmung, a server I might add, was chosen by Roleplayers as the home base, will be non-existant on this server.

what gets me is that this isnt even player housing. Thats where everyone can get it, though its still going to have to be content to which you need to achieve.

The main issue with this is that you actually need to do the content hundreds of times in order to start toying with housing.

Content to achieve (even difficult ones) = Yeah ok.
Content which has to be repeated hundreds of time in order to unlock a goddamn game feature = Not fun at all= Go to hell, I'll go spend my IRL money on some other game.

It drops over time assuming no one bought that specific plot of land.....So I get to camp plots of land also, fun!

Its a sandbox. Its for fun. Saving 100 million gil is not fun.

Its taken my wife and I since launch to save a combined 2 million gil. So unless I want to spend the next three months doing nothing but grind gil, and convince the rest of my FC to do nothing but grind gil, we might be able to get a house in 4-6 months. Sorry, spending 4-6 months doing nothing but grinding gil is......shocker....not fun.

I'm glad I didn't care about housing to begin with. To me it's just a small zone you can't really do much but look at and gives a small bonus of exp or stats that probably in the long haul wont make a huge difference. It's fluff from the get go, I'm happy about the new dungeons though.

You can build airships at houses which grant you access to new areas. There will be a lot of functionality for houses in the future but right now, not so much.

If u cant get the rest of your FC to participate for group content then you shouldn't be getting group content period. That includes Free Company housing, cause again it doesn't include only you and just you wife then it really wasn't Company content now is it?

Farming gils isn't group content at all (it's not even content in the first place, should the money be removed totally from the game it wouldn't change your gaming experience).

To take what I said in another thread;

Initial reaction: Annoyed as hell, getting a House was the first thing I planned on doing in 2.1, and so far it seems like I'm the only one in my FC interested (pretty much all the Gil donated is mine). That idea just went out the window, down the street, to the airport, across to Russia, boarded a Soyuz rocket, and is now hurtling into space, destination: the Sun.

That said, I don't think I actually mind it all that much... OK, this has pretty much killed Furniture as a market on effected servers, seeing as the people who can afford Housing probably have all the necessary crafts already, so nobody will by buying Furniture any time soon. And I'm not going to be getting the House I want for a long time, but you know what? I wanted a long term goal in XIV. Now I have one.

I can already account for 2% of the cost of a first class large house on Excalibur, and so far I haven't actively been trying to make Gil. If I put effort in and make it an active event, things should go much faster, and if I can get the rest of my Free Company (don't even have 8 active members) on board it probably wont take too long. Heck, give it a week and I could probably get a small house fairly easily, though screw that noise.

The more I think about this, the more I like it. It's like Relic weapons way back in XI, except instead of the Linkshell leader screwing everyone over to get a Relic, everyone gets a house.

As an avid crafter and gatherer, I disagree completely. Remove Gil from the game and I'd actually cancel my subscription right away, a MMOs economy is a major part of the experience for me.

You are completely missing the point. Even if our FC was willing to help, which they are, asking them to farm 100 million gil collectively is absolutely absurd. If you can't see how absurd that is, I don't know what else to tell you.

BTW, grinding gil is not and has never been an "achievement", so your argument about it being some sort of achievement to get a house, which is only obtainable by grinding gil, is BS on its face. There is no "challenge" to grinding gil, which is why this pricing structure is absurd, its the worst kind of time sink imaginable for something that should just be a fun side project. Instead it will be a full time job for any small FCs.
