I saw where things were heading and took steps to adjust. I had my WHM fairly geared up, relic and some DL+ crafted. There was a spot open in a coil group in my FC, and I honestly could have taken it with the gear I had. I would have felt better joining after I had finished DL and Relic +1. Instead I decided to work on leveling my other classes. I'm an altoholic, in every MMO I always have multiple characters as I like being able to do everything. Since CT is between Primals and Coil, I figured my time would be better spent now leveling my various classes and getting some basic upgrades and probably relic weapons and then with the patch I'll have a new raid that will provide upgrades for many of my classes.

3 Months into a new game, having 2 major raids, hard and extreme mode primals, and 5 end game dungeons plus various other activities is a lot. It's not as much as a game that has been around for 8 years, but give it 8 years to catch up and it will be a fair playing field.

Did they do things perfectly... no. Did they warn us... yes. They told us what was coming, they told us where it would fall in progression, and when they did exactly as they said they would, people were shocked and disappointed.

Because of that, SE and Yoshida had to create time barriers to keep the carrot in front of the players. Unfortunately the sparkle of a new game world is wearing thin.

    ...

This game was designed with assembly line workers in mind. If you enjoy doing the same thing over and over again until it looses all meaning, this game is for you. If you enjoy mind-numbing content that is just a rehash of the same existing content, this game is for you.
What really kills me is the chore-like weekly token grind for every modern MMO. If I don't feel like playing for a week, I'll forever be 300 myth behind. But if one week I feel like doing 600 myth worth of content, I only get 300. I can never make up for however many number of weeks I decide not to cap.

The system is designed for people who log in every week, like a job. Personally, I like playing for a whole day, doing lots of content, then taking a break for 2 weeks. I dont like things like dailies/weeklies which seem more aimed at people who play every day and make the game a part of their life.

I don't need content to keep me in-game every day, and I especially don't need artificial filler/gating to milk the game into keeping me logging in every day. I'd be happy just being able to log in and complete all content at my leisure instead of being told I'm playing too much this week but not enough next week.

not to talk badly about wildstar specifically, but you do realise that people have said the same thing about Rift, Tera, SWTOR, GW2...
right now the most 'promising' candidates are WildStar and TESO (I think people have given up on ArchAge) and EQN is somewhere inbetween because of the info released about the cash shop...

    so.. uhm... eh... no

I do wish people who want to play WildStar that it's the game they're looking for, but I'm afraid it will be the same thing. quite a number of MMO player really ARE locutus. (GW2 even tries/tried to cater to that)

You know, I really don't know why games with caps on currency don't just make it so there is a cap each week, but if you don't cap out one week, the next week you can reach the combined cap. So if you don't get any tokens for 2 weeks, then the 3rd week you can get 900 tokens for that week. This way the people that don't get the cap every week can always have the ability to catch up to people that have been doing it every week. Or if you started playing at a later time or reached level cap later than someone else, your max tokens should be the same than someone that's been doing it from day one. So say I started playing in the first week and started capping out myth since the very beginning and capped out every week making my total myth gotten equal 2100, someone that just starts getting myth today should have their cap be 2100. Granted, it would take a long time for them to get that 2100, but they should still have the ability to get the same amount.

I'm sorry but comparing SWTOR and FFXIV:ARR is night and day. I played SWTOR and loved it until it went F2P. The two key issues was devs couldn't deliver enough content within in a timely manner. The second was they didn't listen to their player base, I'm not talking about the vocal minority but the people who had legit complaints that needed to be fixed.

The game has been out since Aug 28, roughly 3 months. With that said, if they can deliver solid content on a 3 to 4 months basis than everyone should have something new right at the time they are starting to get bored.

I've played MMOs for over 12 years. It's the same thing over and over. Game X will herald the greatest thing since swiss cheese or sliced bread while inciting the death of Game B that everyone thinks is old and stale. And in the other side of the camp, you have people go into nostalgia mode and reference how great game A used to be (guilty as charged on this one at times with EQ and SWG). At the end of the day, you have to ask your self this: "Am I having fun in this game?" If yes, then continue to enjoy the things you find fun. If no, then find something else you like. Coming on the forums and saying "Gee whiz. They didn't put feature C or D in this game, so I'm going to unsub unless it gets fixed now!" won't really solve much or somehow make the devs crank out content faster. Development takes time, and I've noticed an ever increasing number of rather ruthless and impatient players who want things done tomorrow instead of next month.

And on the subject of TOR, I played for over a year and a half and agree with this:

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

the funny thing about this is that BW has been pouring out content (yes, actual content, not cash shop crap) left and right since going f2p so you even left before the game became what it is now (basically a game where you must be really really 'one-sided' if you can't find anything to do)

people who are concerned about ARR - and then actually compare it with a game that is doing just fine - will never stop to amaze me. comparing it to swtor in a negative light is only slightly less ridiculous than comparing it to wow, acting like wow is dead just because it doesn't have 12 mio subs anymore. it's like people get blinded by that high number and completely forget that for every other game 500k subs is a huge achievement and even that number is not 'the norm'.
not forgetting to mention that even the 'great games from the past' never reached a milion subs and games like FFXI or SWG too came out right at the 'internet boom'.

there are a lot MORE MMOs out now than there were back then, so both SWTOR and ARR are doing fine. if they do as well as expected, that's another story

It CAN be skipped, and easily - therefore, people will skip it. For a genre whose precedent was set by WoW, it's amazing to me to see SE not understand the simple fact that the general populace takes a class they enjoy and runs it to its maximum potential.
Nice comparison! Would your opinion change if you looked at the release of CT as a way of "nerfing" BCoB? Basically, to keep it in WoW terms, this isn't a patch designed to change progression (T14>T15). Its more similar to them "nerfing" current content before releasing a new raid~ allowing more people to experience the "new" content being developed.Except instead of a zone buff being applied to the raid, we have the option of "farming" our buff if we need/want it. I think this is more of what SE had in mind with alternating between BCoC and CT in patches. 2.1 makes the last raid easier via new content (CT, primals, w/e), 2.2 makes the last raid harder via new content (expanding BCoB, primals, w/e), this continues until we near an expansion where the last patch puts everyone on the same level story/gearwise then we get the expansion for all new content.

IMO WildStar is extremely promising for the PvPers. You're entitled to your own opinion, though.

ESO didn't capture me in the betas I played, but I could see an audience for it.
