The last freaking live letter! They even posted pics. If I wasn't on my phone I'd post the entire internet for you.Having seen all Live Letters, reading all Letters of the Prod., reading basically all Interviews I must have missed exactly that little info, that AF2 is supposed to be a different armor coming in the future...
Links please. Otherwise I will refer to Myth gear as AF2 til proven otherwise, cause that's how it was called in XI and it even had the exact same names...(AF1 for PLD was called Gallant ... and AF2 was called Valor... in XI, same for Fighters and Warriors AF and Wizards/Sorcerers etc etc etc...)
I don't have the time to find it for you, but it was stated in the video found here. AF armor : level 45, 50 class quests
AF +1 armor : bought with mythology tomes. AF armor slighty reskinned
Allagan armor : drops in Coils
AF 2 armor : Not released yet.
Yup. Some pics are out there for Dragoon AF2 and Bard AF2 (both are concept art, subject to change just as the helmetless purple geared warrior pictured in this thread a few pages back).

Then explain why my stats went down. Your idea would be right if stats were equally distributed. Gear comes in 3 tiers.. accessories and belt, hands/gloves/head and then body/legs. But wear ilvl90 boots and ilvl60 pants and you will be losing alot of stats even though the average is still 75. What you saying is that you went from 2 ilvl60 pieces and upgraded one of them to 90, but do it the other way around where you have HDL body/head, and upgrade body to 90, and down the head to 60, you'll gain a small amount.. but if you upgrade the head and downgrade the body, its a huge loss downgrading a tier3 stat item and upping a tier 2 piece. In no case whatsoever should you have to neglect wearing a new piece of gear because upgrading will result in an overall stat loss. not in this armor leveling system. Not actually true. At least, not always. I always have refused to use the DL body piece because I'm too pretty to wear a trash can over my head. So I've stuck with the Hoplite Tabard this entire time, but made sure that the Valor Coronet was one of the very first lv90 upgrades I did. If you look at the stats of both head and body for DL (it may be one piece, but look at them as being added together for the sake of argument) and consider that it's lv70, upgrading one half to lv90 and the other half downgrading to lv60 will still give you a stat boost. Just not much of one. And your gear average between the two is lv75.

Darklight Heavy with a hidden helm would be the best looking armour in the game.
Either way, whether you do Valor armor and Hoplite Circlet or Valor Coronet and Hoplite Tabard, it's still an overall stat improvement over the DL body piece. The numbers are there for everything, you can add them up yourself. Depending on what you want to do, each way gives you some stats boosted while others are a little less, but overall it's an improvement. The better combo based on pure math is to have the Valor Surcoat with the Hoplite Circlet as it gives you 44 vitality points versus DL body's 36, which also gives you more parry than the DL body. In my case, I prioritized other myth purchases over the Surcoat, so I did Hoplite Tabard and the Coronet, which gives me 38 vitality over DL body's 36. And, I don't look like a trashcan as a result. To me, win-win.Then explain why my stats went down. Your idea would be right if stats were equally distributed. Gear comes in 3 tiers.. accessories and belt, hands/gloves/head and then body/legs. Do you know that to apply the +1 term, it has to be augmented in a way like Relics. The AF you get from the quest is not augmented to become a +1 when you aquire the ToM one, its a totaly different armor set.I don't have the time to find it for you, but it was stated in the video found here. So at this point it does not really matter, no one is right & this argument could go forever.
Btw, ty to the person who submited the link.
They should be called AF2, as +1 is always Augmented version of previous version. Its been pointed out, but its the same with Relic weapon. +1 versions have *always* had +1 in the name as well in FFXI. So my hat goes to AF2. This is all side convo and just funny to me though. I've seen the pics, and honestly I don't care either way. I've actually started calling them "Myth gear" or by their names (Valor hands, blah blah). So lets all meet in the middle and call them what they are, Myth gear, instead of being lazy and Typing AF2 or AF+1, to save a space or two in words.
Back to the actual subject, Darklight doesn't look bad, except for the obvious helm. I wish they'd let us take it off as an option. Its stupid to be forced into wearing. I would be able to live with it aesthetically, but the real issue is the gear replacement. This is such horrible design. SE, please please please do something about this. At least with casters they have a Vanya option to place in slots they get coil drops for. It is so dumb that anyone should have to drop to ilvl60 just to wear an upgrade. Give us some options, or just give the helm/body a disconnect option (split stats accordingly) for the slot you want to keep.
You know this looks good. Maybe if they had the head visible or something as an option it would be different for appearances; still doesn't justify the price knock up we have to go through for upgrades.Messed up thing is, in the concept art book from the collector's edition there is a Marauder in purple darksteel (edit... that is purple right? was so sure it was, but now I see it on a pc... idk...) *with the helmet off*. I want to look like that ffs!
Just bought some for my pld too xD
