My own theory is that those special stats are going to make a come back. When? That is another question.
The way I see this is as follows:
FFXIV 1.x's gear was fun. It had all kind of stuff, Enmity+/-, Attack Magic Power, Elemental resistances, Status effect resistance, and so on. I don't think they wanted to go away from this, as it has been in FF's past forever. What I think is that, at some point, during developpement, they realised that if they wanted to add all of this, and have it all balanced, it would push back the release even more, so they said: let's go with simple stats, somethingthat will let us release the game, get subscriptions, make money, and use that money to add more interesting stuff. Adding is always easier than modifying and when you gave someone something, taking it away is not an option.
The base stats won't change, you will always see gear with Skill Speed, Spell Speed, base stats, Crit rate, determination and accuracy, but in further patches they could add more to it, because they have time, now that the game is out, to do all those balancing calculations. They are not on a clock, losing money everyday anymore. The game is running and generating income, that they can use to pay guys to make those balancing calculations.
We all need to remember that they had to remake the game from scratch, nothing in the code is as it was before, all the calculations are different, and if they want to make things right, they better make sure that the simple stuff works fine before adding more complicated stuff. If we look at the original ARR roadmap, not a single patch has met the deadlines. They needed to decide to omit certain things to get more important things done. I also hope that special stats will come back, but they didn't need to be there at release, what was needed at release was a strong base that has the potential to evolve, and the game we have is just that.
