    Gear progression too linear

This game is great so far. But gear progression is really lacking variety. Vertical progress typical game like wow has been having problem where people will suspend their subscription till next patch after they clear content. Due to the obvious reason that stuff will be replaced as soon as patch release and will be a easier way to obtain so new commer can keep up with the speed.

To compare with SEs own game, FFXI really have the best gear system in mmo imo. See how desirable a lv50ish scorpions harness +1 and haubergeon+1 is at end game. People did work hard for it and felt well paid off. And yet drops from sky and such still very relevant due to special bonus such as run speed boost on crimson legging and auto refresh on rdm af2 hat and such and those gear last good couple years vs couple month :x . This provide a great varity of min/max in gear combo and really give player option how they like to play their game instead of being forced into a one way track. Hack even wow always have some fancy lower tier trinket out perform higher tier ones.

With 2.1 comming up having all ilvl behind coil. I dont know how long it will take ppl to abandon it after seeing the content in crystal tower couple times. Even with different secondary stat compare to coil gear. The different in primary stat just making them totally irrelevant.(that's another flaw for them in itemize, secondary statz scaling too low). Just look at how cm / pera ia dead after they up the philo stone drop in AK / WP.

I don't know where i can post game feedback to dev. If any of you knows and agree with what I said please forward along. Thanks.

FFXI's gear progression was both great and absolutely terrible in the way that the presence of gear swapping and the multitude of side-grades created a borderline incorrigible amount of situational gear. You essentially ended up with all of these combinations of gear that you'd never really use because you were goaded into looking for the inevitable best in slot for so-and-so situation. And then...came the inventory problems and the legions of mules.

LOL at how the min/maxers think that 1% is OMG awesome.

Of course, that was a result of the vast majority of end-gamers being willing to cheat using a well known third-party 'windowing' tool that made scriptable macros do it all with one button press.

The game as designed by SE didn't make multi-gear-swap-per-skill-or-WS at all feasible, but the cheats didn't care.

I do miss FFXI where items didn't lose value after you reached the next milestone in the game.
Like... I love how the battlemage outfit in 14 looks but once you get to 50 you might as well toss it as you will never use it again.
Same with DL gear... You work so hard for your philos and for what? So you can toss the item once you have your AF/coil gear... and I bet there will be other (better) set that will replace this when Crystal Tower comes out.

FFXI gear swap was a pain in the ass for the inventory but it gave extra life to certain items.
Also, what happened to stats such as "adds refresh" "cure casting speed" "pet HP" etc?

Whew, I'm glad I don't have this problem in FFXIV.

    Oh wait, I do.

I don't see much need for side-grade gear atm. There are no elemental weaknesses at all, and there isn't the content to support passing side-grade gear out atm. Give it time, and I'm sure this will change.

I don't mind the linear progression. I just hope we don't end up with the bloat that WoW currently suffers where items start giving +286 strength +310 Vitality, etc.

I agree with OP. While I hope we never get back to the blinking character models of FFXI (former RDM here.. after an hour of pt I could forget what my character looked like because I almost never saw him), I still would like to see some quasi situational gear. Take WHM for example, Relic +1 is BiS (I assume although I suppose Allagan weapon could be comparable). What if there was another staff for WHMs whose magic damage was significantly less but had a healing modifier that outpaced the Thyrus+1 for only healing. In this example, you could have the Thyrus +1 for clearing trash and most of the bosses. However, if you knew that a particular boss was going to hit really hard and you weren't going to need to provide dps, you could switch to this other staff for pure healing purposes.
