This is why we need a system where we can swap the looks of any piece of gear with any other of the same type. That way once you out level your fav looking gear you can keep it and make use of it's look.

I'm personally hoping that they implement a branching progression system eventually with a new expansion down the line. Something along the lines where players must work for 5 different but equal sets of gear that work for a unique set of dungeons/raids.
The easiest way to imaging this is using the resistance as an overall gear check.
The trail could go like this:
Hit Lvl 50
v
Entry Level Dungeons
v
Entry Fire| Entry Lightning|Entry Water| Entry Ice| Entry Wind
____v____|_____v_______|_____v____|____v___|_____v_____
Fire Raid | Lightning Raid |Water Raid | Ice Raid | Wind Raid
v
Final Raid
Note: Last boss in each elemental raid will give one different piece of resistance free gear (head/chest/gloves etc.) with a huge stat bonus. These items will be required to progress to the Final Raid.
The difficulty between the elementals will be relatively the same but the time to progress through them will be enough where it's not possible to focus on all of them at the same time. Different companies will priorities different dungeons at first and uniqueness will spawn then fade as the expansion progresses in it's life span.

Always remember the Silver Rule:
"Treat others as they treat you!" ...or something like that.
I haven't once been excited for getting any gear in this game. Not a single time did I find it fun to equip a new item or gain a stat upgrade. Oh man, I just got an ilvl 90 bracelet, time for +3 str like +5 crit and +5 skill speed(or something like that) over my current str/crit/skill speed item!! SO EXCITING!
I miss actually having to use my brain when equipping gear, seeing what's the best, using theorycraft/math, asking other people in game, asking people on forums, testing the gear myself, making unique gear sets depending on the situation and my playstyle, and where I kill things and what I kill(need more accuracy or attack or str), actual fun stats on gear like double attack, triple attack, life leech, haste etc etc. I miss completely game changing stats that I could gear around and completely change my classes playstyle. This game has the worst gearing and stats of any video game I've ever played in my entire LIFE.
When all you have to do is see the ILVL next to a piece of gear to determine if it's better than another 99.99% of the time, it means you messed up gearing in your game and made it beyond boring and generic.
I think it's pretty messed up, personally, considering single player games now a day have insanely fun and interesting gearing systems with tons of choices and playstyles. Monster hunter and Rune Factory 4 are great examples of this, and to a lesser extent pokemon. Making a team and picking good abilities, good skills, good items, and a team that synergizes well together is really fun.

Well there is a bit more than that.....you got stat caps like acc, conversion math when it comes to int, piety etc.
Having said that....it is kinda boring, I'm pretty sure everyone agrees that having stats like fast cast, haste etc. added would be great, just need to give it time to be released and hope that is DOES get added.
How many FFXI pieces of gear had those unique stats at game release?

Wasn't aware we should be making a 2003 game a decade later. This isn't 2003 anymore, games aren't made with the same philosophy and they certainly should not be made like a game from a decade ago, especially by a company that knows how to make fun and interesting gear. Also, 1.24 had interesting and fun stats, they REMOVED that in 2.0.
Sick of "OH YEAH? FFXI 1.0 WAS BAD TOO!" arguments, they mean NOTHING, that was literally a DECADE AGO.
If it means nothing, stop making comparisons. Otherwise, pointing out flaws in your comparisons is a perfectly fine response.Wasn't aware we should be making a 2003 game a decade later. Their point was not to make an old game. There point is that you are comparing a game with multiple expansions worth of content and gear to a game that is newly released and has no expansions or content. How in the world can you compare the two when there is such a difference in content. This is the same BS everyone keeps trying to use. You will never have decade long content in a game that is new. What is wrong with you people lolWasn't aware we should be making a 2003 game a decade later. you do realise that what youre saying is illogical as FFXIV had over two years to grow and it actually did and we had equipment with unique stats and an materia system that was actually useful for something?Their point was not to make an old game. can i wear equiment especially to increase enmity? nope
can i wear equiment especially to increase healing magic? nope
why?
because SE decided to scrap all that to make a simple and easy to understand game.
they took what FFXIV did right and scrap that, now ask yourself, do you really, really belive they will make this anymore interesting ever again after just scrapping it? nope
FFXIV 1.0 had more gear choices from the get go than this game will ever have with the current equipment system.
iLvl stands above anything in this game, and if you actually deny this fact, you're blind.
aslong this game is ruled by such a system it will never get less linear, no more theorycrafting, no more different looking jobs, nothing.
this has nothing to do with how much time this game had to grow since the relaunch, this is a fact.anyone who belives that they will scrap this to return to a more complex system is blind

The XI/XIV 1.23 gear style was the best design in the genre period... it was the one thing they had right. Items were unique, items lasted alot longer, content was less negated, and it allowed for multiple builds.
It is so crazy they removed that. Almost everyone liked it.
The gear system now is just lazy.
Level 1 item
Str +1
Level 10 Item
Str + 6
Level 50 Item
Str +28
lets hope it is not Level 70+ item
Str + 48............
Sure it is easy to balance, but who cares. Make stuff worth getting, making people want to get things. If it is balanced and boring it is worse then things being OP.
