


To compare with SEs own game, FFXI really have the best gear system in mmo imo. See how desirable a lv50ish scorpions harness +1 and haubergeon+1 is at end game. People did work hard for it and felt well paid off. And yet drops from sky and such still very relevant due to special bonus such as run speed boost on crimson legging and auto refresh on rdm af2 hat and such and those gear last good couple years vs couple month :x . This provide a great varity of min/max in gear combo and really give player option how they like to play their game instead of being forced into a one way track. Hack even wow always have some fancy lower tier trinket out perform higher tier ones.
It's not gear progression if you never progress in gear. FFXI did gear horribly.
No Xi did it the correct way. What we have in XIV is everyone can get anything, than once the patch hits that gear is tossed. 1st we have darklight, oh wait time to toss it its useless CT is out w new gear, oops time to toss cause I now have coil and myth gear, oh better yet wait now we have a new dungeon that has even better gear but OH GOD now the coil gear and myth gear is trash. They need to add gear that players wont toss but gear that is still relevant, but unfortunatly we see that isnt gonna happen.


How is that better? Not only will everyone still wear the same thing (BiS will always be seeked out, this will never change except through vanity slots), but the item slot will no longer be of any use as the item will always be there.
You might as well just build those stats into the character and remove the slot all together...
The progression model is made to allow the carat on a stick syndrome that developers can use to manipulate players into playing content (repeatably as a time sink). By giving gear that's irreplaceable, its removing the powers that the Dev's have over the user base.

No, XI did it wrong. When a 75 THF uses level 7 shoes, that's not progression, that's stagnation.No Xi did it the correct way. The way MMOs should be built is that every patch has something new to work toward. When you make gear have such an impact that is all you get and stop, that defeats the purpose of updates, because you already have the best equipment.

why do people think CT is supposed to have better gear than coil on launch?... they said many times it was the step in between primals and coil <.<

He is talking about CT shadowing DL gear...he is missing a comma somewhere there
I am not gonna compare ff11 and ff14, no point, it will just turn in to a circle jerk
So far I am having fun and 2 months is hardly enough time to determine how the game will progress
BUT....if they follow the modern model of increasing the gear lvl and just throwing more instances from where to get said gear, it will become stale as shit.
