They don't have to "scrap" anything. Did FFXI "scrap" the way geared worked for the majority of levels, or did equipment simply become more specialized as the game matured? I'd expect the next iteration of AF armor to have stats specialized for jobs. Now obviously I can't see into the future, so I might turn out to be wrong. But it's inane to compare gear from year 5 of an MMO with gear from day 1.

iLvl stands above anything in this game, and if you actually deny this fact, you're blind.
aslong this game is ruled by such a system it will never get less linear, no more theorycrafting, no more different looking jobs, nothing.

this has nothing to do with how much time this game had to grow since the relaunch, this is a fact.anyone who belives that they will scrap this to return to a more complex system is blind
So they can't put a higher amount of a stat, say str, on a lower iLvl piece of equipment than a higher level piece of equipment? No "scrapping" there, no redesign of a system. Just a stat difference.

no idea what you're talking about, but i wasn't comparing to FFXI.
FFXI's gear had its own usefulness from the beginning of the game due to a completely different system.gear swaps etc made it possible.it didn't need to grow 5 years at all to accomplish that.

i was comparing to FFXIV 1.0s system.
i know that new AFs could introduce something like trait enhancements, but what once new gear comes with higher iLvLs?
this game relies heavily on your main attributes.so much that it makes any lower iLvL gear obsolete.
1.0 didn't rely so much on main attributes but rather on healthy combination of different stats.

i'm not gonna ask myself twice if i should rather go for those +10 crit or +5str & +7vit if the answer is obvious.

there just have been so much more stats in FFXIV 1.0 that allowed you to build your character differently that it only makes you wonder why they did away with this.
the only answer i really have is that SE wants a fast food MMO that is easy to handle, and thus, will never be as deep as FFXI or FFXIV 1.0

lol do people proofread what they write, some of you all not making any sense. I think the memories of ff11 have clouded your judgment of a new game vs a decade old game that you just cant let go. so stop comparing ff11 and ff14 because no matter how you look at it, those games need their own identity and style. its ok to get some aspects of ff11 but some of you people want ff11v.2. lol im putting up my flame shield cause im either speaking the truth or blasphemy and will probably be ignored but hey those are the breaks.

Not sure what caused you to get hostile, but I'm sorry if I was confusing. Saying the developers will never change, or the current state of gear in the game is just short-sighting yourself and the game. Your telling me I'll quit the game when I am still enjoying it, yeah that makes a lot of sense.

It's not impossible for them to bring back mechanics that worked in 1.0 or add similar mechanics. All I was trying to say is it's as easy as changing existing gear or simply adding new gear.

My own theory is that those special stats are going to make a come back. When? That is another question.

The way I see this is as follows:

FFXIV 1.x's gear was fun. It had all kind of stuff, Enmity+/-, Attack Magic Power, Elemental resistances, Status effect resistance, and so on. I don't think they wanted to go away from this, as it has been in FF's past forever. What I think is that, at some point, during developpement, they realised that if they wanted to add all of this, and have it all balanced, it would push back the release even more, so they said: let's go with simple stats, somethingthat will let us release the game, get subscriptions, make money, and use that money to add more interesting stuff. Adding is always easier than modifying and when you gave someone something, taking it away is not an option.

The base stats won't change, you will always see gear with Skill Speed, Spell Speed, base stats, Crit rate, determination and accuracy, but in further patches they could add more to it, because they have time, now that the game is out, to do all those balancing calculations. They are not on a clock, losing money everyday anymore. The game is running and generating income, that they can use to pay guys to make those balancing calculations.

We all need to remember that they had to remake the game from scratch, nothing in the code is as it was before, all the calculations are different, and if they want to make things right, they better make sure that the simple stuff works fine before adding more complicated stuff. If we look at the original ARR roadmap, not a single patch has met the deadlines. They needed to decide to omit certain things to get more important things done. I also hope that special stats will come back, but they didn't need to be there at release, what was needed at release was a strong base that has the potential to evolve, and the game we have is just that.

I just hope we get REAL AF, where the gear really adds to the job you are playing. What we have now is just AF looks with stats like similar ilvl gear.
