The whole notion of 'memory' just shows how out of touch SE is with the modern MMORPG design. Modern MMORPG does not rely on memory. Let's say you have an intelligent AI playing the game for you. It is able to instantly process any ability displayed by a mob, and it is able to interpret any cues correctly the moment it sees them, but it does not know what any of these abilities/cues are ahead of time. If this AI was playing WoW it'd easily clean house and run circles around the best players. If it was playing FF14, it's actually possible for this all powerful AI to somehow die because there are ways to put yourself in a position against an unescapeable effect if you didn't memorize it. The modern MMORPG is basically built with the assumption that if one can immediately interpret any onscreen cues and react correctly, then one does not need to know anything about the fight AT ALL ahead of time. Now of course none of us are this good, so it's good to study the fight ahead of time, but the cues provided by the game itself should be sufficient to conquer the encounter, and FF14 fails here.
