Honestly, I would like to see Ishgard get an AH and the other 3 cities keep the retainers, I am fine with that. A little compromise never hurts anyone.

Lol Troll. A feature that was already planned to be in the game isn't a compromise, it was something they wanted to add at the start but didn't have the time to do so.
i really dont remember if they had originally planned to add a search feature, i think they did so because people wanted it. They wanted players to create the systems and rules that made the wards make sense, but then they realized that was really hard to start up, so they created guidelines via names and taxes, the search was basically them giving in and making market wards very close to AH.
I honestly really dont see why its a problem now, you can find whatever you want.
to the above guy, hmm 2 minutes, maybe i load a lil faster, interacting is basically equal to going to shop for me. so really its just load times.
I dunno takes me just as long to go to an npc and buy something because i basically have to do the same thing, look online, find where npc is, go to npc location, which is usually farther, may even be only in a certain city or guild. and it probably only has one item i need.
But no one complains about npcs, maybe because they can have a fixed location you can find, and they always have the items.
Maybe the game still does have a demand for player owned shops, cause that could solve that issue, but it would still need advertisements.
anyhow they can give you the ah, but they definately need to tax you for the convience, and if its instantaneous, that tax should be pretty decent.

They wanted the market wards to be a 'market battle'. We wouldn't have things like customisable stands to draw attention to our retainers if SE was just going to add a search feature to negate the point of that customisation.
Search feature was a response to the demands of players and a way of meeting them halfway.
