Can someone explain the current story-arc?

I find the text a bit hard to follow, but is the jist of things that everyone is saying that change is coming?

Also, why does Legoman ask us to join him and then shoot a laser at us? I'm really confused.

Basicaly yes, the major story arc so far revolves about the city states resisting the empire. with the backdrop of everything headed to hell in a hand basket on a rocket sled.

Branching out from that are story's in and concerning the city states and there citizens.

To summarize: the 7th umbral era is like the ending of the world. Think back to FF6 when halfway through the game the world was turned into the World of Ruin. The (Garlean) Empire, apart from being bent on world dominance, seems to be heralding in this destruction. The Empire has largely been able to dominate and subjugate through their use of Magitek. When Legolas shoots his laser I'm 99% sure that was a Magitek aparatus.

Magitek was originally designed by Cid who's past is still unknown. He is now affiliated with the Maelstorm. We know that Magitek was used to conquer Ala Mihgo.

The Circle of Wisdom or whatever is an alliance of hyper-intelligent people (which includes the notable NPCs, like Papalymo) who have mobilized to stop the Empire and the coming Umbral era. They were responsible for the behind the scenes action that led to the reestablishment of the GCs in each nation.

The Path of the Twelve is a separate group of people with the gift of the Echo (to see the past) who have organized to try and stop the Empire.

When Legoman tells us to join him, think of it as being similar to telling Darth Vader telling Luke to come to the dark side... then trying to kill him.

On second thought, you're probably right on this. Either way, he's working in cooperation with the GCs.

i do not think Cid is working with the Maelstrom, is more like what you call Garlond Works or something and is working with all 3 City States Grand Companies.

That doesn't make any sense unless he was trying to test us or if they pull the insanity card.

What about the Limsa openers? Why do they care about the way I hold my gun? There was like 6 interesting story-plots they just got told to me then never spoke of again.

Also 3 nations have their own companies that don't trust each other and believe they have a better idea in fighting the empire.

You guys should do more of the main scenario. The Imperials share a common goal with the player adventurers to some extent. According to the main scenario, the empire is offering salvation to the peoples of Eorzea if only they would agree to accept imperial rule and help the empire destroy the beast tribes/ primals. The primals are suspected to be the main evil at work in Eorzea, since they're draining the world's aether. However, the empire views those who have the echo of being the same as the beast tribes, since they are able to communicate with them, and seeks to wipe all who have the gift mercilessly as well (meaning every player character lol).
