With a flexible class system like we have right now, you should be recruiting roles, not classes.
Yeah wouldn't it be amazing if we could stand around in our proclaimed dragoon class armour letting the game spam auto-attack for us?No, boring and unimaginative are the classes we have now that "are supposed to be generic."
I think you got made fun of one too many times for your "unique" FFXI setup and it got to you.
Again, I'm sorry but those people are right. You may have enjoyed this little 6 month excursion into sandbox land where your snowflake character plays the way it want to play primarily because no one else cares any more, but the product is substandard.
If you don't like FF fans, walk off son. You don't belong here. I don't know what you're even doing here if you don't want to play a monk or dragoon. Squatting it sounds like.
I don't know what you're doing here either to be honest. Maybe when they invent an MMO that lets you watch paint dry you'll finally be satisfied and won't have to destroy the potential of FFXIV for everyone else.
Captain Hook, Jean Pierre Polnareff (through Silver Chariot) as well. It's definitely a working concept, just has to be made worth a damn through game design.
I'm an avid FF fan and as such I have played several games from the vast series. Some of the games have some more specific roles, and some are loosely based on a role (if any at all but their own.) It upsets me that, although I love the love people had/have for XI, a lot of the people coming from that game expect this to be basically the exact same thing with better graphics. The games 'Final Fantasy' all the way through 'Final Fantasy XIV' have always seemed to have several differences and the only ones actually similar, are truly sequels. (And even then, you get dress spheres, lol.)
The ability to customize a character in a game not only brings a sense of accomplishment, but also allows you to make something truly unique that works possibly better than a specified job. (And also the feel of a self-appointed role, rather than someone having to take you by the hand and show you what you have to do.) I think this game would be really boring if we weren't able to use as many of the abilities as we have now on other classes. I think it would be a little redundant to keep playing the same thing over and over again in every final fantasy game. Wouldn't that just be us playing the exact same game over and over with just improved graphics and an altered storyline? At least the way it is now, I can work on each battlecraft I desire to, experience it, and feel the difference between each one. They are all different and the combination of several different battlecrafts working together can give some rather positive results.
It's a new world with some similar lore and races, but that doesn't mean that everything needs to be cut and paste from another final fantasy system to make it good. How is it unique and not 'generic' to have the exact same thing handed to you again? I'm not saying the classes we have are the best there could be, but I personally like something relatively 'new' from each game I play, and not the sense of doing the same thing all over again.
I'm sorry if when you're handed sculpting clay, you can't be bothered or don't have the creative urges to make a sculpture. This is such a wonderful, creative opportunity for people and it's sad that some are so against how intricate you can truly make your character in this 'generic' system. (As well as continue to develop it as more classes are released.)
The intricacies of a snowflake is what makes it beautiful and desirable.
Uhhhh you know whats funny FFXI turned rdm into a cheesy mage class, and people think thats what its supposed to be. Its supposed to be a class that can do magic AND regular attacks. Its not supposed to be this guy in the background casting refresh on mages and debuffs on mobs, generaly in final fantasy lore, that would be a green mage.
Also this idea that ffxi charachters were unique and special is not true, every DD was lumped in the same category, and basically played the same exact way for like the first 4 years of the game. buff up, wait for tp use weaponskill, the end. Rdm "uniqueness" was refresh. blm and whm smn and probably nin were the most unique, and nin was an accident, and smn was disrespected by all for most of its career, and became a fake whm.
These generic classes, are way more unique than 90% of ffxi classes. pug playstyle, versus gladiator, vs lancer its a totally different feel, and different mechanics. I think you guys had to many 8 man parties versus mobs you could probably solo, not your fault really, the game encourages it, but damn.
lets really ask ourselves
what was so unique about monk in FFXI? i can tell you right now what monk was about
monk had boost.
it had various weaponskills
it had counter
chakra
chi blast
kick attacks
dodge.
thats it folks that is 75 levels of monk right there.
so what did it have that was unique, every class had weaponskills, most with the same types as monk. 1 aoe, many single target, a couple multihit, every DD and tank job had these same spread of WS
kick attacks was basically double attack for monks.
counter was given by items, and later by skills to other classes
chakra was basically, a heal
so we are left with the unique factor of monk being chi blast, wow so unique. i enjoyed monk, but to be honest they did in no way push the boundaries of uniqueness. not to mention in FFXI you could get the majority of the "unique" skills from subjob, so how is that unique, i dunno.
I guess its a visual thing, i will agree that visually most of the charachters look the same, but lets be honest, they didnt release much gear, and this is like starting gear, i didnt look unique in FFXI until AF was released. 90% of DD wore the same gear till AF, heck even monk sam nin was rocking beetle harnesses.
you guys are really caught up on names, lancer and dragoon, i hate to say it but lancer is a better fighter, and hes only 50, he can avoid melee attacks, pierce multiple mobs, sacrifice hp for speed, and heal over time, bind mobs at will AND STILL DO PENTA SPAM. damn homey. all dragoon got is jump, and guess what is in the dats for lancer JUMP. These level 50 generics, blow thier counterparts out of the water at 50, they are much more unique and skilled.
copy paste ff tactics job system.
call it a day
This times a million. In fact, I'm gonna sig that.you know whats funny FFXI turned rdm into a cheesy mage class, and people think thats what its supposed to be. Its supposed to be a class that can do magic AND regular attacks. Its not supposed to be this guy in the background casting refresh on mages and debuffs on mobs, generaly in final fantasy lore, that would be a green mage.
I also agree with the rest of your post.
Ugh this really is about all the terrible Rdm/wars in FFXI trying to make a comeback, isn't it.
You are not a snowflake. You are an underperforming nightmare.
