Definitely. They're looking to get rid of us.Here is the direct quote from Ferne, translating Yoshida:
"We don't want to make that fish, the individual fish, the items, that valuable; because we think that it's going to be more about the players catching the fish, it's going to be more about their achievements: so, what kind of fish you've caught, you have your log that keeps track of what kind of fish you have, and how large a fish you've caught, and getting achievements for larger fish..." [stream cuts out]
That sounds like planned obsolescence to me.
It's working SE. I'm this close to quitting.
This sucks herring balls. I need a beer.
It's foolish to assume that fish will have absolutely no impact on the economy. I've seen food items in the beta that are named after fish. I can say with some degree of certainty (speculation only of course) that fish will remain an ingredient in cooking, therefore there will still be a demand for fish in the markets.
As someone from another thread pointed out, I think that he was addressing it in terms of FFXI where you could catch fish and make decent money just vendoring them. That apparently won't be the case here.
But who cares if the mechanics are garbage? I don't pay a monthly fee to sit and stare at me screen, or do something in game specifically so that I can not play the game. It's foolish to assume that fish will have absolutely no impact on the economy. At this point I almost wish he'd just give us what Botany has. At least that requires some player interaction.
Oh no! I immediately thought of Fishing Representative LL Coram when I heard the news, straight from the Yoshi-P's translated mouth. To this news I say:
NOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
D: I really hope, despite it all, that fishing will be viable and entertaining, if "relaxing". If fish are a recipe in anything, then we know we will have a market to sell to, we can say that much (right????).
Fishing RIGHTs....FISHING RIGHTS...I TRICK UNSUSPECTING SEA CREATURES ONTO A HOOK OR BOB FOR LATER CONSUMPTION OR TRADE....AND I AM PROUD!!!! Long live the Water Rogues! YEAH!!!! 'Til Ichthyoids Swallow All!
(This Wikipedia link has some interesting details on fish and its value in society throughout the ages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fish if anyone is interested).
What I don't understand is how it is acceptable to completely change the purpose of the class in a way so vastly different from what the gathering class was in 1.0. If it no longer has any purpose besides "achievements" (which every other class already does) I feel like I spent countless hours on something that is now for nothing.
Plus who asked for this? -_- I don't understand who they think they are catering to. If they thought fishing was boring or they saw how many players were uninterested... This was the perfect chance to make the class more engaging. Not even more stale.
This to me seems like such an after thought. Like hey who cares its just fishing, lets cut costs and make this easy to do.
Really hope you thread lurkers respond and voice your opinions on this, I don't think there are many people who care enough about fishing when you compare the FFXIV community as a whole and I don't want the game to launch with the DEVs not knowing their small fishing fan-base is about to be nonexistent.
Probably should just wait and see what it's like in Phase 4 then pitch a bitch.
Personally I'm glad, this is going to make me much more likely to take up fishing. I am glad there is a gathering thing I can do thats very simple and doesn't need a ton of input but can allow me to play the game while im BSing with my friends in chat or holding my 1 year old in my lap and only half payhing attention. I don't mind this change at all.
You can already do that with EVERY crafting class... Why does it need to be done to fishing also??Personally I'm glad, this is going to make me much more likely to take up fishing.
