Q10: How will fishing work in FFXIV: A Realm Reborn?

A10: It's probably best if you actually experience it in-game, so let me just go over the broad concept. In ARR, you will first need to walk near a water spot, select a fishing pole that matches the type of water, and then select the bait. There will be no actions during the fishing process. Instead, we will be providing a variety of fish-types depending on the area.

I can't help but be worried by this, I was hoping for some kind of minigame but from the sounds of this it looks like it's going to be a point-and-wait deelio D:

I am hoping that my understanding of this statement was wrong ><, I'm not usually one to grumble but taking the mini-game aspect out of fishing kinda feels odd, like hitting 'fish' and just waiting would get kinda old... it'd be easy, but old D:

Anything is better than fishing from 1.0. It was so random, I hated it.

EDIT:
I should mention that I'd much prefer it to function like mining and botany do in A Realm Reborn. I just really disliked how it played in 1.0 in comparison to the other gathering classes.

Feel free to add in here. I'm basically as angry as I've ever been. If he really thinks that "I like to talk" is a good enough reason to completely remove any and all involvement with the process then I can't imagine the rest of the game will ever be any good.

We asked for MORE involvement, not the removal of everything that made fishing fishing. What's the point? Why did he even bother letting us fish in 1.0 in the first place?

Hmmm I found it to be pretty much the same as mining & botany in 1.0 o_o just with a "horizontal" minigame. However, I don't think the bait/lures in 1.0 were working as intended and that's what caused the randomness.

Confused about how it will work even from what he said. . . . Seems even simpler than the already simplified other DoL class >.>;;;;

Yeah. . . . but I'm sure it can't bee worse than 1.0. I mean, Yoshi said he wants us to have a nice experience while we fish rather than just do it for the purpose of gathering mats, so I believe that he's going to make it enjoyable for us.

Ok, wait... wait... wait... yay you got a fish. WASN'T THAT FUN?!", then it's a lot worse than it used to be. At least before you could tell it what to do.

I can't imagine it being all that simple, although I gotta admit that Yoshi's info so far about fishing is puzzling. Just don't believe he's make it that simple, but who knows. . . . I guess in 3 more days we can find out(?)

Fishing won't be included until beta phase 3. That fact actually fuels my depression. If it really is a completely brand new system, then he should want as many people as possible testing it before launch. The fact that he's only going to give it to us in phase 3 tells me that there's no complexity to test.
