I believe the identities of Samurai were that of a Melee job that...Anything but the last cosmetic thing in the list, unrelated to combat gameplay? Then you're correct. YES, 6.1 SAM changes pretty much butchered the Job's identities most players perceived it had. I as a (for now, not a MNK player yet) only Samurai player can definitely attest that it ruined a lot of what Samurai was to me.
- Top performs (A/R)DPS
- Uses windup animations and long cast times as the Melee caster
- Builds up resources and executes big hard-hitting Strikes
- The job that provides nothing to any Party/Raid except more Damage
- Aesthetically is a Samurai with a Katana regardless of gameplay/rotation
In fact? I actually don't know what the intended Job identity was of Samurai from the Dev's pov as far as PvE combat goes, other then " it needs to hold and flail a Katana ".

Same for me. If I had to pick one thing, I'd say that SAM's identity is building towards a Midare, an ability that requires you to build with the use of 8 GCDs across 3 different combo.
I think this should be the core of the job and this should be a high potency ability that feels good to cast every time. Now that they removed Kaiten and decided to spread that lost potency into our combo abilities, the job feels terrible to play.

Not a mention about fixing SAM or reverting or feedback or anything in the liveletter. I think I'm quitting after this sub period, boys. It's been a fun ride.
y'know, at the very least they should revert to 6.08 if only because the backlash from this has caused them to commit to expansion reworks only. the fuck should we be stuck waiting for two years for them to possibly fix their own fuck-up for?

Yep. I don't understand the need to remove abilities that restrict the developers from expanding on job in future expansions..1 odd patch after Endwalker comes out when we have plenty of life left in this expansion before any major changes happen

hmm or we go ourselves into Game Development and recreate 6.08 Samurai in an Tabtarget RPG, I mean if they don't bring back Kaiten, we shall!
.. I may need the Kenki gain values from every action though, they are untouched still, which is important to replicate.

I'm still trying to wrap my head about which dumbass dev decided it was a good idea to remove Kaiten. I just don't understand it.
I'm trying to wrap my head around who decided it was smart to make a casted melee aoe be a circle instead of staying a cone! But I guess if I ever pick up SAM again, I'll let myself die in the wall to wall pulls because I need to do optimal dps to the whole pack.
