Ah, well. Maybe SE doesn't want us to know whether the Primal was sighted before or after the Battle of Silvertear Skies... I've got a handful of quotes like this. They're consistent within 5 years, but inconsistent in terms of anything shorter. That's a whole Umbral Era's worth of time!

Door's back open on Shiva and Ramuh. I've still got 10 gil on Odin.

An interesting take on the story to be sure, but this part implies that Gaius schemed with Nael to do the thing he tried to talk him out of. That's the big part I disagree with. Baelsar thought Dalamud was bad news when he thought it was just a rock. No one in the Empire was prepared for Bahamut, as far as we know, except possibly Cid - who was witness to the Citadel incident. Then again, we saw Cid in the End of an Era cinematic and he looked pretty surprised.

Regardless of what was going on, though, I do feel confident that Gaius probably did not say, "My plan to fall from the Emperor's favor and be ridiculed for ten years as I serve a questionably sane Elezen while he does my job of conquering Eorzea has finally come to fruition!" which would have admittedly been pretty funny in his Judge Vader voice.

As you can tell by this thread, we know a lot about a little, and none of that lot is the little that matters. It could be anything. As I've said, my money is on Odin. He's an Elder Primal that seeks to do battle with worthy foes - there's only one other Elder Primal around here. But who knows. For all we know Odin is a guardian deity of the Allag meant to balance Bahamut and keep him locked in his Labyrinth ... which would explain why he aimlessly wandered the Shroud for aeons while the Wyrmking was playing Pluto, I guess.

I do think the Empire is doing unholy experiments with primals however...

But that is another topic... for another time...
