chocobo vs chocobo reminds me of ffxi coliseum and it sucked. i don't want to watch npc's fight each other. but i did love the chocobo companion itself though and glad it will fight with us in battle.

*looks wistfully down at the ground*eeewww.... I'm actually a dude.... lol. Anyway, I just dont see them putting an item into a game as a straight up throw away item, they usualy have some purpose, however small. you might be able to cook the 5g fish with some garlic and moko grass and make it a 10g broiled fish that you can sell or eat for a small strength bonus. Later on you can use the smaller fish as bait for your boat trips to catch the larger fish. I just cant see putting a fish in your inventory just to sell it for the lowest price possible and thats it, thats why i brought up the fear of removing the actual catching of a fish.
I just hope you can still catch monsters.
But I can be whatever you want me to be... ... .. no no no lol
Monster catching would be great, though I hope they make it in select zones (if possible on accident) or make it so its on purpose (particular baits) as otherwise it could be easy to get your face rolled because you weren't in a battle class when the monster popped and slapped you.
I'd love to see boat trips as well. We've seen that they had boat plans (very early in FFXIV 1.0) so I'm sure that will come up again. I imagine the other gathers can have cool things like floating islands with special minerals, undersea caverns, and giant lifa trees.
Though so you know why the fear was easy for me: When I was a fisher in 1.0 I would get 5 to 10 stacks of 10 gil fish and just sell them at the npc because they were a waste (I only got to 20 in the other gathering classes but I felt like they made more money - I was just bored of triangulating resources in a circle so I stuck with fisher). I'm actually ~500 away from luminary rodlol
So it wasnt so hard for me to imagine "even more useless fish" and I got instant night terrors XD
ninja looter!!! (Though if we remember back Yoshida was talking about something like 3 100% drops at the end of a dungeon and then the losers get tokens - if you could run dungeons with a small group you'd really accelerate the process of getting loot.. though it would be like a challenge mode, dealing with weaker sometimes sillier allies (chocobos)).

Firstly, who's panicking and losing their shiznet?? And who said they fear fishing becoming useless?? I already said I didn't even fish AT ALL in 1.0. The point is to reflect on the supposed changes to fishing based solely on what we've heard/read thus far. Let's stay on track here.. this is just a discussion.. nobodies flipping out..This is exactly what i got from it too and its all we can really say at this point. Before people start panicking and losing their shiznet, lets wait until someone has at least had a chance to try it. I would not be surprised if there was a little lost in the translation from Japanese to english, english to an experience, an experience to an article, then an article to the reader. i dont think that the writer of the article got to try fisher even so we really have little to go on.
To address the "going the opposite direction" part, I take 1.0 as the base, look at the crafting video of the direction they are heading from 1.0 to 2.0 (which is less of a hot and cold thing, more streamlined, easier to understand, able to get consistent repeatable results.), and then they say fishing is going in the opposite direction (this to me means it will be a better mini game, keeping the hot and cold mystery aspect, keeping things random, and less predictable.).
If you receive an actual item from fishing, It will have a use in the game, bottom line. The only way they could make fishing as useless as you seem to fear would be to remove the actual catching of a fish and putting it in your inventory. With nothing in the inventory then it truly would be just a hobby.
Your part about "going in the opposite direction" doesn't make any sense because your neglecting the part of the sentence prior to it. To say to you it means 'it will be a better mini game' would be to take that phrase completely out of context.
"I asked Yoshida whether fishing will have more tradeskills using its harvested items in the revamp, and he replied that the team actually went in the opposite direction by making fishing focus on the experience of fishing."
Meaning that fishing will use either less or no tradeskills from its harvested items in the revamp. Nothing about "going in opposite direction" means "it will be a better mini game". Although, it may in fact be a better mini game, as one would expect and hope.
Well, they maybe a Smart NPC and do the best move for the right time. Maybe they may put in like a Gambit type system where, You assign your Chocobo to do a certain thing based on conditions.*looks wistfully down at the ground*

Maybe the design philosophy has changed, but it was said a while back that you'd be able to form a light party with 2 people and 2 chocobos. Anything more than that and you'd be restricted to one chocobo per party. All subject to change of course.
In terms of fishing, I seriously think something was lost in translation. Fishing should at the very least support cooking. I hope one of the Japanese interviews asked about fishing and we can get a better translation of it. (/poke Reinheart)
No one is losing their shiznet, although you seem to be coming close. I was actually talking to Shogun in my post (Hence the reason i quoted him) and he seemed quite concerned. I did use a key word there "Before people start panicking and losing their shiznet."Firstly, who's panicking and losing their shiznet?? And who said they fear fishing becoming useless?? I already said I didn't even fish AT ALL in 1.0. The point is to reflect on the supposed changes to fishing based solely on what we've heard/read thus far. How do you make fishing focus on the experience of fishing? I guess the way you are reading it is by removing all other aspects of fishing you then make fishing alone the focus. Like i said this was just the way I read it. I could be wrong, honestly i could care less about fishing. Its never appealed to me in anything other than real life. I was just trying to ease some concerns by providing an alternate interpretation, sorry for being optimistic.
No need to apologize, as I said, you may be 100% right. I was simply correcting you taking that phrase about going the opposite direction out of context. But, if you still interpret that line the same way, to each his/her own ya kno.How do you make fishing focus on the experience of fishing? I read somewhere in the interview, that it would be like FFXII gambit system.
I hope so, I really liked that system.
fishing is the new grass
(notice a common thread?)
It was originally so powerful that Yoshida was like "hey wait, you guys are making a bot" lol
They had to weaken it. I'm curious where they decided to leave it at. Hopefully they gave us enough commands or at least complex commands to dictate behavior in situation.
Only if you have association skills of 0.
