If this indeed implemented, ragardless of the negative feedback, would you look into the option to pay an NPC to deplete the spiritbond back to 0? This way if we want to give an item to a friend, or linkshell member we can do so without issue. This would also make it possible to sell/trade multi melded gear, and not be such a drastic change to the prior system in 1.0.
I ask for this simply because I've helped quite a bit of people in my XIV 1.0 days. I was one of the people that had no problems helping out a newbie, or helping gear someone. The system you plan on implementing could and would encourage crafting/gathering.....but if there's an npc to deplete the spiritbond as well, those who want to sell or trade their items or multi melded gear still could. It's a win win situation.

I mean win win in the sense that if you like the option to where the gear bonds to you and you cant trade it or sell it, even if it has 1% SB on it, then you win cuz you're stuck with it AND if you want an npc that can deplete the SB% back down to 0, so you can trade your gear to a friend or linkshell member, you will have this option. So like, I win, you win, got it?
I think the decision to change this system in this manner was stupid. This isn't GW2 >.>
For the record, I bought GW2 to play with some friends while 1.0 was down, and I have played it only a handful of times. I HATED HATED HATED the souldbinding option in GW2 and I felt it made things very restrictive. It gave this cheap, restrictive and disposable feel to the game and its gear/armor. Items shouldn't just be used and discarded like that for nothing...I mean really, once its bonded to you, what choice do you have but to npc....and that's it? What if I'm trying to convince a friend to play ARR with me, and maybe he/she just started and needs better gear since he doesn't have the gil, or if I have a nice multimeld I would prefer to sell or give to someone else instead of npcing it? May I also note that the friends I played GW2 with lost interest a long time ago, and I haven't logged in in over a month...
I agree to an extent that this proposed idea would promote more crafting, but honestly when you played 1.0...how many people REALLY crafted and really kept the mw stocked? CERTAIN things on our MW were stocked more than others for sure on RIdill. It was mostly dropped gear from the dungeons, gear that yielded the best materia via spiritbonding, and certain gear that was best for multimelds (boarskin ringband of lighting, Mahogany pattens, felt trousers ect.) Trying to find low to middle level gear was a feat in itself, unless you knew a crafter that would help you.
I'm truly only asking for the devs to look into the idea-if this is going to be the system going forward- that they implement an npc that you pay gil, that deplete the SB on a non EX item back to 0. Sure I'm not a fan of the proposed system... but I'm sure there could be a compromise to keep everyone happy. I want to play this game long term, as I've played FFXVI since beta, and I truly love the game, and hope for the best in ARR-but weird changes like this will not make the transition easy, and I'm really worried about it breaking the game for me. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

This isn't a weird change its in most every mmo. Gear in modern mmos is replaced at a high rate usually. You will be going through tons of gear as you do quests and level up they using the quest leveling design that everyother mmo out there now uses. Either you will be npcing a lot of gear or converting it to materia as you level, probably just npcing since low level materia don't seem to sell well. Anyone like someone else mentioned you won't be starved for gear due to quest rewards.I don't see how? I'm not asking to defeat the purpose of binding gear, all I'm asking, is that IF I want to unbind it, can I have it please? Of course, I don't like the idea of binding. But instead of being that guy saying "OMFG please god no!!!" I'm just wondering if we can have the best of both worlds.This isn't a weird change its in most every mmo. It's a personal choice I have, just like someone who has an item that is 100% spiritbound that chooses not to create materia out of it...or if I put the wrong materia on a piece of gear, I can talk to a golblin and have him take it (or them) off.... I want to be able to trade/swap/sell gear that is non ex IF I choose to and how. This is a FF game isn't it? Last I checked this wasn't GW2 or another WOW clone.....omg wait..

We understand what your saying, however in a situation such as this is would far less complicated and cumbersome to just not have bind gear at all. Different isn't always bad, and I'm learning to appreciate what the game brings to the table, as well as the promises of tomorrow nights dinner (2.0). All in all it's bad to hate a rock for not being a tree, or something like that. What's the point of this? there isn't one, just one guy's view of an artificial world.
