Will crafters be able to make any money with lower level gear. OR is crafting going to be worthless level 1-49 crafting. Is any gear pre endgame going to be worth anything?

If the buyer knows that everything they have is honestly worthless in maby 5 days - 1 week of playing. Will they be willing to spend more then 50-100k on a said piece of gear.

The turn it into materia is not a valid argument. I have a double meld peice of gear, now I made a triple... so I will turn it into probably a worthless materia... YAY WORTHLESS CONVERSION!!!! 20K Peice of materia for a peice of gear that is worth 2 million WOOT (worthless now that is it bound to me though)!!!!

THERE ARE NO MMOS THAT FOLLOW THIS STUPID BIND METHOD THAT HAVE A GOOD ECONOMY. The only games with a worthwhile economy are the ones without it honestly. So the argument everyone is doing it so it is the best way fails. Because it does not work in ANY OF THOSE GAMES.

History of mmos proves this is a failed model... anyone arguing that needs to provide me some examples because I have never seen any.

    Look at this scenario.

Double Melded Gauntlets (Already Spirit Bonded so EX - unsellable)

Then you can double meld another pair of Gauntlets (Not Spirt Bonded - sellable)

Now lets try and Tripple Meld the EX ones because if it blows up, at least we still have a spare.

...Cool success, now let's sell the spare...

Essentially the exact same scenario, except you have a pair to sell. I see nothing that has changed. Except you can't sell your old gear that has already been SB'd.

Removing the option to sell peoples old gear just reduces the amount of price gouging in the market. Among other things, it's a great addition to a new economy in FFXIV: ARR.
While I did get two crafts to 50 before the final save, I did not spend much time attempting melds or multi-melds, so I cannot speak from experience. However, my understanding was that you should only attempt multi-melds on brand new equipment and not used/SB'd/repaired equipment (using brand new equipment to multi-meld had better success rate).

Maybe this was spread as a superstition, I have no idea. ?

Given that ARR will use a completely new system, the new Armoire could very well be a complete storage keeping track of all the attributes of the item from repair stage to spiritbond
But they would still be U/U. The items in the armoire can have 0 spirit point and you can still not trade them to other players.

So I make some new gear and try for the triple meld over and over... A long time later, yipee! Finally triple melded the gauntlets. I now equip the triple melded ones as their better. But what do I do with the old ones??? Their pretty useless to me now, but I can't sell them as their spiritbonded to me. NPC? 15gil for double melded gauntlets, wtf?
Try to triple meld your used gauntlets, too. If it success then sell your unused triple melded gauntlets.

Began way before WoW. EQ had bound items waaaaay back in the late 90s. WoW didn't start anything. Bound items have been around for more than a decade. (Maybe even longer, I haven't played any MMOs earlier than EQ though.)

I support this. I mean, it's so realistic. When I buy a shirt in real life and wear it for a while, I can't just give it to someone else to wear, that's just crazy!

FFXI slowly began introducing this concept too, if you think about it. Started since ToAU really..with all the awesome gear being rar/ex

Now almost everything in XI is rare/ex, but I feel they did not balance it properly for the crafters, so yeah...they took a bit of a hit. Otherwise though, I love love love the direction they went with that in XI. No more dealing with bullshit Fafnir camps, or fighting over who gets the sword worth 10mil.

As far as crafting the "inbetween gear" (lvl 1-endgame level), over time, XIV too will suffer from old content/gear, and this wouldn't be such a problem anyway. In 1.0, we had already seen the implementation of lower level gear (Hempen and some Cotton stuff) already available from NPCs in the wards.

The debate with the materia melds: If I recall, Yoshi did say it would be a bit more streamlined: ie, easier to make melds. Odds will be better, and by the looks of it, there will be an abundance of materia to go around.

To me it seems as if a lot of the reluctance to accept the idea of item binding comes from the old economy prices we are trying to peg on items. I agree this is territory that should be approached extremely carefully, but if you really think about it, it's not as bad as everyone makes it seem to be.

I found old WoW patch notes expanding the system to prevent flooding of the economy.

    Patch 0.6
Release date (US) 13 April 2004
Quest rewards are now labeled as Bind on Acquire. Quest rewards can still be equipped or sold to a merchant, but you will no longer be able to sell or give them to other players. This has been implemented to deter these items from flooding the game economy.

    Patch 0.7
Release date (US) 15 June 2004
To strengthen the economy, many items have been set as Bind on Acquire or Bind on Equip.

With the new quest system in FFXIV, I wouldn't be surprised if SE makes the gear from quests EX. If players can dump quest gear on AH this will create flooding just like WoW.
