One thing that does seems strange. TESO trailer has 2+ million views in YouTube. While ARR only has 200k. Did Bethesda paid YouTube to make their trailer trend at the top of the search list? The ARR trailer is more exciting and have a sense of story behind, so it should have more viewers than 200k. It's this an indication of the level of expectations ppl have for ARR.

ARR has done little to say what makes it different from 1.0. ARR is birthed from ashes. ARR is made by SE - who has a had a hard time evolving systems, so.. all in all its hard I imagine from the outside to think much.

-Everyone- knows that SE has AMAZING graphics, but SE is in a world where you have to evolve.. they are not known for it.

TESO is making videos explaining the game, and why its different - like GW2 did. Good hype machine. Also TES is a popular series, whether people want to bash it or not lol.

ARR is not exactly ready for a full on hype machine - and if it is then perhaps SE should be listening to its players for marketing advise.. lol (but I dont think they are ready for hyping the whole world, just wandering players and returning players - at the moment).

Bethesda has actively pushed this video into advertisements, to get the word out. I found out about the trailer by watching youtube videos and saw it pop up in youtube's commercial advertisments that you have to click past for viewing. I obviously didn't! lol Then I saw it pop up in G+, facebook etc. So they covered social media as well.

Square does have social media sites covered but they don't actively push the video out so people not interested in the game will discover it. I don't think Square is ready to do a media blitz yet. Where Bethesda is!
I think Squenix is being very careful not to garner to much attention until they have good solid information to show with gameplay, game info and etc. right now it's all subject to change. However it's more solid with Open Beta approaching more than it's ever been!

    I think so too :P

Squenix.. lol. If at Stage 3 Beta and they are on schedule and they still haven't bumped up the hype.. then I think we should be bumping threads like crazy and rattling cages. But right now im 80% certain its all according to plan lol.

There's nothing SE could release, XIV related, that could get 2.2 million views in four days. Before questioning other companies, I would look at the fact that the Final Fantasy brand has been damaged as Yoichi Wada admitted, as well as the fact that it was this very game that did the most damage.

The thing is TES is far more limited in possible story line growth and map additions/expansions. The folks who will be drawn to the game expect certain areas and stories to be true based on the previous games in the series. Star Wars had the same problem. Sure, it had a natural fan base, but we expect certain truths and events in Star Wars and those expectations limit what can be done creatively without compromising the story line.

Now in the FF series, we've come to expect certain things too, but typically they are easily included and can morph their roles and purposes in the game. Moogles kept your room in order in 11 but were a comical foe in 14. Cid ha;s appeared in most FF's but his role is always slightly different. Due to this, SE can create almost anything...as long as we have airships and chocobos.

TES doesn't appear to play or look much different than Sky rim.. I watched one of the trailers and it just looked like 20 guys in skyrim...all dressed the same in bland colored clothes downing 'meh' combos and skills. It also retails for almost double what ARR will according to pre-order sites.

So while yes, TES will probably have a small following of role-playing Argonians 6 months after its release, I just don't see it having the story line or allure to keep subscribers long-haul

I really don't have a whole lot of optimism for TESO because they decided to go for the formula MMO just like SWTOR did except for the voice overs, and everyone is already playing games like that. Nah so far in my book FFXIV wins because they are more flexible in the kind of features that matters to them and to us as fans.
It's really not going to be anything like WoW, and a lot more like DAoC (which incidentally is not a sandbox MMO anyway and absolutely never was.). ESO is being made by the same guy who produced DAoC. The base systems are almost exactly copied from DAoC.

XIV is going more for the "formula MMO", too. GCD, more solo friendly, etc. In fact, I would go as far as to say that ESO will innovate more than ARR.

Don't get me wrong, I'm rooting big time for ARR too. Just correcting your blatant misinformation. ESO will be a great game; ARR will be a great game. They'll be different games, and I hope they are both a huge success. This whole "MMO vs MMO" thing is ridiculous, and pointless.

It'd be a better comparison if they where all CGI or all game play - because a few of those looked to have some more exciting combat then what I've seen of SE released ARR contents (although we've only seen up to level 20 of only 3 classes), but obviously SE has some rockin CGI (as well as character graphics and aesthetics in general).

In a matter of PR/Hype I wouldnt say ARR is a clear leader in the matter of being better - I hope and dont think Yoshida is going to be cocky about that (my guess why there hasnt been much of a "hey look at me" hype going on yet).

BLESS and Kingdom Under Fire II have a few cool things but overall i don't feel like i'm making a bad decision playing ARR
