You have to target enemies in Final Fantasy XIV to attack them, so the sluggish inertia animations don't do a single thing for strategy. Every single skill (unless the PvP exclusive skills are different, which they won't be) are cast/used directly on the target. The only "strategy" involved in moving would be to avoid having them hit you from a specific direction, which the inertia animation has nothing to do with.

OH, HE STAGGERED TO THE LEFT! GOOD THING I AM STILL STANDING STILL AND CASTING MAGIC!

It's almost as if none of you have actually played this game before!

Except you're forgetting the range for all of the melee characters. If one of you can reach the range faster than the other one, you can deal more damage while your opponent is getting into position.

Adding to what I said above, you still have to face the target to be able to attack. There is of course the "face target" hack they implemented because of the laggy servers, but why would it be there for ARR? The inertia animation has to do with avoiding getting hit from a specific direction in the sense of making you plan ahead.

Magic is about the only thing that isn't affected by opponent's direction changes, but I'd like to hope SE will be able to balance the system in a way that doesn't involve the usual LULZNEEDSM0ARBLM.

No, according to everyone who wants it back in the game, it didn't actually hinder movement in the slightest. It's only aesthetics. Actually moving out of the way is what would let you avoid damage.

The system was already somewhat balanced, that was the player base that made that crap the law.

I saw those for two years, I remember the animations. I won't miss them in A Realm Reborn. While you're logged into the game, find how the removal of those hinders gameplay in the slightest.

And moving out of the way is not hindered by the inertia at all. If your goal is merely moving away, you don't have to turn. The only thing that inertia is doing in the game is playing realistic animations anyway.

You still haven't given me any arguments that justify calling me dumb, aside from getting a laugh and a few likes.

    I said you were dumb?

I was implying that someone would have to be dumb to be tricked by movement inertia.

That's not how it read to me, I understood it as "claiming this is a tactic is dumb". I guess I misunderstood.

The fact that they're changing that and the old default movement to the "standard" strafing/slowly backpedaling is actually somewhat of a hindrance on a controller. It makes it take longer to turn around to run back. Again, that is on a controller.

Besides, characters just starting and stopping their movements just like that looks pretty damn awkward. I don't see why they needed to remove a neat aesthetic element of the game just like that.
