If you loose a couple, well you loose a couple because that is inevitable but the amount of players you gain from targeting the non-active audience is going to be larger creating more NEW subscriptions.
May want to know something about business before stating that something is good or bad business.

If someone ditched an incomplete game, you don't invite him to experience a massively incomplete incarnation of a new game.

Inviting inactive accounts to an early alpha testing doesn't make the slightest sense, as the advertising power of the current alpha is very limited, and is most likely to actually have the opposite effect on people used to complete games. That kind of accounts is suitable to be invited during a late beta, when most elements are already in place.

This, of course, without mentioning the fact that explicitly stating a rule and then not honoring it is a rather large marketing blunder.

I completely agree, who would be better to give feedback than one who has completed ffxiv on many different levels. Look at myself for example, I leveled EVERYTHING. I would certainly have a lot of feedback to offer about 2.0, and I would happily do it, because I want the game to succeed.

Please stop complain about this annoying theme. You all speak about the alpha as it would be completely normal to get invited to it!
In an alpha test you invite only some peoples that meet some points. Maybe you got the same GFX card like 99999 others? So you could get sorted out so SE get the chance to test out other users with different GFX cards maybe?
This is an alpha NOT a beta. It is normal to NOT get invited to an alpha, and not to get invited to it!
Or do you always complain when you don't win the jackpot?
And beside that SE DON'T need to respond you in this thread since it is their product and they have the rights to invite whoever they want to.

Inactive accounts that meet the requirements doesn't meet the requirement of needing to be an active FFXIV account holder in order to even fill out an application.

For kicks I did it with one of my inactive accounts from 1.0 alpha and beta, was able to no problem. Beta is when he mentions active/legacy accounts he'll try to get in but well, we know the opposite will happen since beta is a good advertisement grounds and a state to try to win people over.

They know they'll get the small playerbase from 1.0 back easily, so it's not really them who they care about in the long run.

If this theme annoys you, why do you read the threads dedicated to it?

Complaining about complaints and all that...

It is normal to NOT get invited to an alpha, and not to get invited to it!
What is not normal is explicitly setting a requirement for application and then not honoring it.

Really? If those "business classes" (lemonade kiosk 101?) taught you that it's a good idea to try and lure back in those that quit an incomplete product with an even less complete product, you may want to ask for your money back.

    You've been scammed.

Only that those that "destroyed" the old game all work for Square Enix. The audience had no infuence in it.

It's amazing how some people grasp desperately at totally unrealistic straws in order to try and defend a ridiculous decision under every point of view.

right but for the bajillionth time it had nothing to do with content or the game. it had to do with lack of and broken engine that kept them from building a full, complete game. yeah people always come and go from mmo's but it would of been the game it was meant to be not the one being created now.

Actually no. It had a LOT to do with the content of the game. The engine was only part of the problem, and a lot of Final Fantasy fans would have dealt with the engine if only they had something to do in the game.

The biggest problem is that 99% of the activities to do in the game for several months after release were guildleves, and that's it. There wasn't anything to do besides doing moar guildleves and leveling just another class. And you can bet your underwear that that problem is the primary cause why a ton of people quit.

A game can have the most amazing engine ever, but if you don't have stuff to do in it, you'll quit. It's that simple.
