The god of dragons – First hints at Bahamut? [Lore Post]

Hello to all the adventurers interested in the story of Eorzea.

This is a lore-related post about certain things I recently discovered, as well as some personal theories, so be warned that it contains spoilers, mainly on the sidequest “What Glitters Always Isn't Gold.
It's a similar post to the one I wrote last year on the “Moonstruck” sidequest, the very first hint at Dalamud's future changes that only a few adventurers could catch.

I've been keeping track of all the updates on the Seventh Umbral Era so far. Here're my discoveries and theories on this new matter from my last journal entry (more photos there):

In patch 1.21, apparently there wasn't a single update or Grand Company mission on the 7th Umbral Era storyline, except for the new change in Dalamud's look.
But actually there's one single sidequest (that one, “What Glitters Always Isn't Gold”), that I felt was very important. And it was!
I had to locate a missing Ishgardian theologian, kidnapped by the Garlean Empire and brought for unknown reasons in the Aurum Vale.

Recently, I finally completed the mission by killing the troops and their commander, and after speaking with Coultenet again I learned some interesting informations.

He told me that the copy of Divine Impetus that the Primus Ordinarius was carrying belonged to the missing theologian, and it talks about the ancient war between Halone the Fury, guardian deity of Ishgard, and the dragons of Dravania.

In the tome, the author claimed he found out that the dragons worshipped a god... In that case, if Garlemald depicts this god as the eikons summoned by the beast tribes, their interest in the theologian appears clear.

On related matters, in The Raven's latest article, Oliver Goodfellow said that he discovered in one of the Gods' Quiver records that 10 years ago an archer on night duty in the East Shroud noticed the reddish color of Dalamud, but by dawn the phenomenon was already over and never recorded again (that is, until now).

I can only think that was the occasion when the Empire failed to summon Meteor and the incident at Bozja Citadel happened.
This time, however, considering Dalamud's size and hue, it seems Nael van Darnus' wicked mind is succeeding in the project.

Also, the article says that the cultists of the Lambs of Dalamud are still running their business of kidnapping and sacrificing citizens... I knew they didn't learn the lesson, so we might soon have to fight them again.

But more importantly, there's a mention to Nidhogg, who in the past 20 summers has been in deep slumber. According to the Holy See of Ishgard, Dalamud's change is an omen of the wyrm's awakening.
However, I don't think Nidhogg is the god of the Dravanian dragons mentioned in the Divine Impetus... For the title of “god” I can only think at one fit for this role. Could it be... Bahamut?
In Eorzea he has yet to be nominated, so only time will tell more...

Still unanswered also why the imperials brought the theologian in the Aurum Vale and not in their camps in Mor Dhona...

Nowhere to be found, could the Garlean Empire's secret encampments be inside the remains of the dragon Midgardsormr and their fallen airship Agrius?
The Keeper of the Lake lies silent in Silvertear Falls, the Battle of Silvertear Skies still echoing in the aether... I wish I could go there and explore the place...

    -------

Also, in one of the paragraphs of Goodfellow's article it says:

Wares of questionable utility, the sale of which could only be described as fraud, have emerged in such numbers as to fair flood the market.
I wonder if this is a joke to the fact that the Market Wards are overflowing after the World Merge , or if there really is some vendor selling special items in Ul'dah... Probably the former.

Anyway... Any other adventurer payed attention to Coultenet's tidbits and have similar theories? Who do you think will be this “god of the Dravanian dragons”, that we'll most likely have to face?
I remember the artwork shown in one of the Making of a Realm video (this one), but that doesn't look like Bahamut nor a god. Judging by the images I'm finding elsewhere, I say that's going to be Nidhogg.

And I'd really like to enter The Keeper in Mor Dhona...! It would be awesome if the Garleans' base is hidden there... Yeah, I know, chances that they'll let us enter are low, but if they would it'd be Great!

Well, while we wait for the Lore Section we'll have in the forum sometime in the future, post here your theories if you want.

In any case, even if the first one may be Nidhogg and the real god will appear at a later time, I don't think it'll be long before we'll be able to fight a proper big badass dragon!

I like it! However, I do know Bahamut is one of the strongest, if not *the* strongest force imaginable in general FF lore. If he is given an awakening/revival, i expect it to be the climax of a given story arc.

I read Coultnet's story and immediately thought of Bahamut. I also thought of Bahamut as the one speaking to the Dragoon in the cutscene for the final AF. I don't believe that was Nidhogg. If it was, why was the Dragoon so surprised...?

    "It can't be!"

i heard somewhere, maybe from an LS member or forums, that the dragon on the airship isn't neccessarily dead but sleeping. suspended animation have you. and the other dragons are trying to gather enough aether to re-animate it. i doubt its nidhogg on that ship unless the event from the opening movie happened a really long time ago.

i do believe that it is bahamut on the airship and the garleans tried to capture it and "tame" it but it backfired.

THat body is like his ashes, also it is not bahamut. It's dead, comeplettely, but who knows, maybe we will have to "revive" it somehow to save the world from Dalmud

The opening CGI actually happened like 10-15 years ago. The dragon is Midgardsomr(I think that's how it's spelled).

    More Lore.

Yes, the one in the Opening is the Battle of Silvertear Skies of 10 years ago (I briefly mentioned it in the first post, too).

Yes yes, I think we'll face Nidhogg first (and maybe other “lesser” dragons? That would be Great, Chrono Cross-style!), but for the “god” like I said I think it's a title that would fit only Bahamut, although he has yet to be mentioned in Eorzea (and yeah, the final battle with him will probably be in the very far future).

I've also discovered that Nidhogg (ニーズヘッグ) is apparently mentioned only in the English and French version of the last article of The Raven, and in the German and Japanese one they simply refer to him as “dragon” or “evil dragon”:

    イシュガルドの天文学者が、「邪竜復活の兆しである」とする学説を発表したこともあるが、この説を本気で信じているのはイシュガルド人くらいのものだろう。
And in the French version, Nidhogg is referred to as “le roi-dragon”, that should mean “the King of Dragons”, while in the English version he's referred to as “the great wyrm”.
Hmm, maybe I should report this to the LOC Team...

Anyway, I seem to understand that in other Job Quests there're some interesting lore-related tidbits... I might level up certain Classes only for this reason...

Hopefully by 1.22 we'll know more about these dragons, too!

Can't primals be summoned and resummoned ad infinitum anyway? Can they even stay dead? If they die once, they can just be brought back again. I think that might be behind the "starshower" from the opening cutscene; the garleans were trying to isolate the primals from the aether and keep them from being summoned by their tribes/paragons. EDIT: And perhaps keeping them captive to exploit their power.

The only dragon god I can think of is Shinryu or Seiryu.

Looking back at the opening CGI movie; when the Garlean battle ship crashed that was when the primals first appeared.
