They changed their own rules for selection. They decided to go for something other than what was laid out in the rules and even though they can do whatever the hell they want with their test, this leaves much to be desired about them. You would expect a bit of congruity and consistency here.

I'm talking about the VERY FIRST requirement stated on the alpha test application site. It has been linked now too many times.

I'm simply pointing out that SE changed their minds by admitting non-active accounts. Heck, those people would have realized they weren't eligible just by reading the disclaimer, but applied regardless (well played gentleman).

Nope, totally independent of the selection process. The website managed which accounts were and were not able to start applying, demonstrated here:

Weird because It would not let me apply to the alpha the first time because my FFXIV account was inactive(I had played before but stopped playing). I then repaid for the service and then was able to send in an application to the alpha, weird.
