I don't believe we'd be dumb enough to think they're picking people all willy nilly, who's selection would end up being detrimental to them. But I do believe we may just be selfish enough to care more about what benefits us over them, all while claiming the people who were selected are inferior to us, based solely on that fact that they aren't us.
Unless they invited a very small number of people you can probably thank the RNG gods.

We could always ask whoopeeragon, for a good laugh.Oh and about showing my friends, i mean they come over and see me playing, as the NDA says... "As stated in the “FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Tester Agreement,” testers are prohibited from publicizing any proprietary information related to the Alpha Test on external sites. In the event that we confirm that infringement has occurred, your rights to be a tester will be revoked and your FINAL FANTASY XIV account will be suspended. ". I wont be posting stuff in any website so it isnt against it. Also i'm sure that some of the ppl that entered the Alpha have parents/brothers/sisters/friends living with them, which at some point will see them playing. For example, i play on a big screen on my room... will i have to lock my door and close the windows, check if there is any camera around in my room turned on, kill anyone that see's the game, etc?

So no, showing your friends or family, indirectly or directly, is breaching NDA. It is thus up to you to ensure the environment you test the alpha in is controllable by your actions as to not let any sign of the testing be shown.2.6 Alpha Tester’s Confidentiality Obligations
“Confidential Information” shall mean (a) any and all information relating to or contained in the Products, Software, Documentation, or other materials supplied to Alpha Tester by Company in connection with the Alpha Testing, including, without limitation, information relating to the performance, conditions, capabilities, and contents of the Products and Software, methods of reporting and conducting, modification schedule, modification process and its progress in the Alpha Testing, AND RECIPIENT’S FEEDBACK, OPINIONS, SUGGESTIONS, AND COMMENTS (POSITIVE AND/OR NEGATIVE) REGARDING THE PRODUCT AND THE SOFTWARE, (b) the existence and the terms of this Agreement, (c) the Square Enix ID and password used by Alpha Tester, or by any other Alpha Tester, (d) THE IDENTITY OF ALPHA TESTER AND THE FACT THAT ALPHA TESTER IS PARTICIPATING IN THE ALPHA TEST, and (e) any and all information relating to the future or proposed products, services, or business operations of Company. Confidential Information includes, without limitation, all such information disclosed to Alpha Tester prior to the execution of this Agreement. Alpha Tester acknowledges and agrees that the Confidential Information constitutes valuable trade secrets of Company and (subject to the other terms of this Section 2.6) agrees to keep Confidential all Confidential Information, and only use Confidential Information in connection with Alpha Tester’s participation in the Alpha Test.
Alpha Tester shall not disclose, publish, distribute, transmit, post, or otherwise make available, directly or indirectly, any Confidential Information to Others. IN OTHER WORDS, YOU MAY NOT POST OR PUBLISH IN ANY WAY YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE ALPHA TEST OR YOUR OPINION OF THE NON-RETAIL VERSION OF FINAL FANTASY XIV ONLINE. However, at some point during the Alpha Test, Company may officially announce on the official Alpha Test website or via email that certain specified materials may be uploaded and published.
And you do not act on NDA; SE does. So if you violate NDA then do other law-breaking acts, that is entirely your choice, and SE does not have anything to do with it.
Laugh while you can. NDA isn't something to laugh about.
By rights, I have been breaching NDA by telling you about the NDA, but it appears no-one bothers to read it. Once people start using their literary skills and read every line of the NDA, maybe things will calm down.
Would not the invite be classified under 2.6 a)?Whoa, guess that post wasn't so OK as it is no longer there!! (although I guess the poster could have removed it too?)
Come on SE, where in that NDA of yours does it say I can't say I received an "invitation" to the alpha? At that point I still have to decide whether or not I want to accept it. I may not accept it, or maybe I will.. all I'm saying is that an I received your email invite, not that I am a tester. I request clarification.. (like I'll get it LOL).
I would classify invite emails as materials supplied to the alpha tester by the company.“Confidential Information” shall mean (a) any and all information relating to or contained in the Products, Software, Documentation, or other materials supplied to Alpha Tester by Company in connection with the Alpha Testing...

Wow this sure turned into a big hate fest on each other perhaps most should just drop the topic we are all very anxous to either test the game or get back to playing hell i sure do. i want to test the game not only to help it along but to see whats up but the sooner the better and another fact is the issue of loyalty to be honest it seems long time players loosing to 1 time players is for an alpha test is kinda a kick in the nutts but its SE they do what they want to what they see is best for their game that they are making for us to play
I think he/she is OK. They just said they got an invitation, but didn't mention whether or not they accepted it and/or are testing Alpha. I haven't seen anywhere saying that you can't say you got an invitation to Alpha. Nix found in the NDA where it says you can't disclose that you are a tester, should you in fact decide to accept the invitation (which then takes you over to the tester forums and to agree to the NDA).
