Based on the poll, we have a huge majority supporting equal in game marriage for players, yay!![]()
I'm for a different term used to to express your relationship if using the word 'marriage' will upset people. I'm sure "bonding (I nearly said bondage here)" or "Allegiance" would be more suitable.
As for how the exact event happens....I can totally imagine the 'fireworks' that happened at Kan-E-Senna's speech in Gridania occurring after the exchange of items is complete.
Bondage? Some of the gear in the game...... wouldn't be surprised.I'm for a different term used to to express your relationship if using the word 'marriage' will upset people. I'm sure "bonding (I nearly said bondage here)" or "Allegiance" would be more suitable.

But yeah I like the idea of changing the name.
Quoting AGAIN for great justice. I like this idea, a lot. Leave it up to the players/union to interpret what the pact means.I've been thinking on this topic a lot, trying to find better ways to make this work for the entire community without having it crush anyone's toes so-to-speak.
This is my original post from Page#2:
Reading through this thread gave me an idea, let's say we built on this and instead of it being a marriage in the sense that it's a partnership of two people in love, why not make it so it can be a pact between friends who are sworn to protect each other etc.
Square could advertize it as a Pact / Bonding / Pairing etc, but it would be up to the individual adventurer to define what that pact means, whether you are married to each other or whether you are best friends and so on but for everyone the ceremony would be the same - you would just swear a pact of allegiance to each other, or if it's player controlled then do as you will. Having a ring or amulet to show that you are bonded to another, with their name would be pretty neat too!
The cathedral could tie into this, having it as a place where you can swear your allegiance to each other before the twelve (and the respective priest)
I'm curious on what everyone's thoughts on this are?
For me I think it would be a great solution, I think it could appease those who are against SSM and those who are for since it's up to the individual player to define what their pact means to their bonded partner.
Have a great weekend guys, I'll keep my eyes open on here!

Clicky here now to Like and hopefully SE will consider this approach. That way everybody wins!

Alrighty, with that let me make my point. There is no defense of excluding a group of people from any content, but especially when the only excuse you can come up with is your own bias. This is a game we all play to have fun, if someone else doing something you're allowed to do without a second thought offends you, then find something else to do that doesn't involve other people.

Speaking as someone in the GLBT community, I find it much easier to get the facts first...before getting bent out of shape. Trust me I completely understand where you are coming from, however we are talking about a game and not reality. My gut tells me that SE will allow all marriages to happen, but who knows. If you want to make a real difference in reality then staunchly support yourself, but remember that sometimes we can agree to disagree and be respectful on both sides. Besides it always annoys the anti-glbt side when you look more mature than them.
