I think during alpha and perhaps early player base closed beta they should maintain the current server - and at the same time test their transfer capabilities so players make sure they didnt forget anything.

As it is now I'm screenshotting my inventory/quest/quest items before the servers go down just in case they cant transfer everything properly.
