They did not say it would be a month for char transfer it could take a month or so for the transfer. Wish people would stop bending SE's words.

Can't disagree that it shouldn't take that long... However, better to get it done early than late, I guess. I've played F2P MMOs where, when transferring to another hosting service, a lot of stuff went overlooked and a lot of players were pissed (i.e. Cabal Online and Shin Megami Tensei: IMAGINE, to varying degrees). Just kinda promptly get it done and stuff.
While I dont have a quote on hand I am fairly certain we are not using our own characters right away in beta. If at all.I think (speculate, guess, make wild assumptions) that they want us converted before the beta so that we can test the stuff that has high level requirements during beta with our real characters but not make real progress. Otherwise, we only beta test as many levels as we can gain during the beta, yet SE knows that they need to support endgame on day one. Sorta leaves a vast gap in the testing if they don't let us in with our 50s for at least part of the beta. It'd be a hassle to only convert those legacy players chosen to play beta, so they probably want to convert all of us so they don't need to select beta testers before starting the conversion.
I think it was discussed but later trivialized. If they wanted us to test end game content however they could just give all our characters what they expected the fight to require and tell us to go at it and watch.
I think during alpha and perhaps early player base closed beta they should maintain the current server - and at the same time test their transfer capabilities so players make sure they didnt forget anything. Can't disagree that it shouldn't take that long... As it is now I'm screenshotting my inventory/quest/quest items before the servers go down just in case they cant transfer everything properly.
Did you read my post? It said "about", I was being pessimistic but I left the famous SE vagueness in the meaning of the sentence.
OH GOD I SHOULD GO DO THAT NOW. *hops off forums*I think during alpha and perhaps early player base closed beta they should maintain the current server - and at the same time test their transfer capabilities so players make sure they didnt forget anything.

Because they hate you.Why FFXIV saving before 1 NOV? Why OCT 31?
... I can only assume that's the answer you want to hear, anyway. In reality there are these things called timezones and they make it very difficult to say that something is happen on any given day for the entire world in perfect accuracy. It's going to be Oct 31 for some, Nov 1 for others.. but it's all generally the same time period so really what does it matter?
No leeching, No PL'ing, just 100% playing the game.
No, but saying hey look this item is gone what happened to it? So long as they didnt delete their 1.0 records I can ask them to look into it for myself and others. I wont memorize all my items - a screenshot will help me.
Otherwise I could be missing items and not even know it till I needed it.
