It seems they want to take ffxiv offline sooner then expected. Why was this decision made to cut our saves off sooner then expected?

uhm.. time zones?
1 nov JP = 31 oct NA
maintance start 31 october and end 1° november. It isn't sooner.
I think the bigger question is why are they taking our characters down in the first place - they're not even in alpha, and they plan on reviving the servers in a non saving state.
Seems like we could have played a few more months before even bothering to switch into beta.
Somehow, I think not being able to play those extra 6 hours before the final save/shutdown isn't going to kill you.
Because transfering the data takes some time, and we can't just update the character data whie they're transfering the data. Even if we are just in Alpha, they need to not only transfer everything, but make sure everything transfered will work as intended, all while working non stop on A Realm Reborn.I think the bigger question is why are they taking our characters down in the first place - they're not even in alpha, and they plan on reviving the servers in a non saving state.

Indeed he said it would take about a month. As seeing that we are many months away from even thinking about an open beta, I dont see why we have to do it early.Because transfering the data takes some time, and we can't just update the character data whie they're transfering the data. I don't see the rush either. It is very likely we are not going to see a final release of 2.0 till next year now. Well that's my impression not necessarily what you might think or what others have said. I won't count on it till after feb anyways. That being said I don't see the need to rush a save and drop servers till we are at least starting beta stage.
I think (speculate, guess, make wild assumptions) that they want us converted before the beta so that we can test the stuff that has high level requirements during beta with our real characters but not make real progress. Otherwise, we only beta test as many levels as we can gain during the beta, yet SE knows that they need to support endgame on day one. Sorta leaves a vast gap in the testing if they don't let us in with our 50s for at least part of the beta. It'd be a hassle to only convert those legacy players chosen to play beta, so they probably want to convert all of us so they don't need to select beta testers before starting the conversion.
