Here's what is stupid about many comments here.

First of all, I highly doubt people will even miss the various regional communities, because of the time zone that already SEGREGATES the masses.

Secondly, most players here can't even communicate effectively in another language other than their own, so the whining and complaining is really silly.

Thirdly, the game is undergoing a lot of change, so you cannot simply just take your current experience and translate it out looking forward to 2.0. If the game will introduce PvP where split-second timing is going to be critical, then you're going to regret not being able to choose a data center closer to where you live.

Finally, SE is still allowing you a choice. Stop whining. Most MMO games pre-segregate you and some won't even allow you to register an account in another region due to IP blocking. Be glad you're getting anything at all.

Pretty much, even as someone that can communicate effectively in Japanese I couldn't give two shits about playing with them, even more so given the fact the majority of them don't want to play with us.

Oh and someone mentioned it 15 pages back, but yeah, the majority of Japanese people are xenophobic, it's a phenomenon observable across their culture from the first Portuguese missionaries to present day. Japan is 99% ethnically homogenous, they have a strong ethnic solidarity and identity, so much to the point that even born-in-Japan Koreans/born-in-Japan mixed children(such as a Japanese and a non-Japanese's child) are often the target of exclusion and the Japanese's culture's passive ostracism.

Hell, it's a common trait amongst most Asian nations, unless you're their brand of Asian, they hate you.

Generalization = bad. There are people who play at off hours due to night shifts or travelling around the world. And playing with those communities is not the only need for them, think of all the potential buying power you're losing, for example

Actually, I believe the majority of users on the English forums are not native English speakers. The reason why other language forums are less active is not because there are less non-English players but because many just use the English ones instead.

Generalization again. Not everyone cares about PvP.

We're not "getting" anything. We're losing our global server community for a low decrease of latency (Low, because Yoshida said it himself, connecting to Japan from Germany was very responsive and smooth).
But that doesn't seem to be an issue to you, since you seem too be concerned about being good at a game instead of playing it for fun.

If the majority cares about me not being of the same origin as them, then that majority can go to hell. Doesn't matter, which country's majority we're talking about here.

I have few friends, but they are from all over the world, and yes, I even met some of them irl. I'll just stick with the minority.

Even if you look past the upcoming segregation, global servers was something unique to FFMMOs, now they're killing one of their unique features while making the game more "standard". Which is not necessarily a bad thing in some areas, but what you have to ask yourself is, why would someone choose ffxiv which has a bad reputation if you can choose a game x that has the same features/gameplay which has a clean reputation? Being too unique is bad, but being standard is worse.

Except they're not being segregated, not in the least. There is no region locking, there is no "YOU CAN'T PLAY WITH THESE PEOPLE!" You pick what server you want to play on.

How people keep missing this point is beyond me, apparently basic reading comprehension is outside the capabilities of most people.

What SE is doing is in now ways segregation. Segregation belies lack of choice, of which there is none. If you want to play with a bunch of people that you can't actually understand, such is your choice.

And while we're at it, global servers are hardly unique to FF. I have met more people in more places on shitty F2P MMOs than I had in 6 years of FFXI and my time on FFXIV combined.

Being multi-national is in no ways unique, and this "feature" you're talking about isn't dying in the least. Please make use of more of your brain cells before making conclusions.

Apparently, you are included in those group of people lacking reading comprehension. It was said many times already that gathering all of the people on one server is not going to work, simply because even if someone is your friend, you're not their only friend, and their friends are not only friends with them either. Forcing to decide between friends is what SE is doing.

The only way that would work is if we had the choice which region to go to each time we log in, but that's unlikely to happen.

It's also interesting how many people play they "you can't understand them anyway" card. Are you so sure of it? If you're limited to one language, it's your own fault. I'm constantly learning new ones instead. With 5 languages atm, I understand a lot of people.

    such a drama...

is it too hard to make new friends?

as we never "lost" our friend in real life, when you grow up, or you moved away, you will lost contact with some of your friend...but you will also find new friends in your new place/school...

SE provide OPTIONS, for those that who want to get better game experience, that should be provided since DAY 1..

and Its not our fault to only able in one language, its our choice, but if you think knowing 5 languages make you feel smarter than rest of us,go ahead, but its a moot point on this discussion
