This is extremly upsetting, many of my friends picked to play FFXI and XIV by extension because they were one of the only games where you could play with people around the world with ease.

Now I'm forced to segregate myself from my friends in other regions wether I care about lag or not, I have friends in NA, EU, JP, all around the world. It's a dark day for me at least.

Whoopie for people who care about .3seconds of lag.

I don't get why people on these boards have to play mental gymnastics in order to convince themselves and others of something that is clearly not the case.

In order to have optimal gameplay, regional servers is a must. It's coming and it'll be far better than what we have now. DEAL WITH IT.

I don't know what game your referring to but based on what we know now for THIS game, there is no server transfer option as of yet, there might be one come 2.0 but until something like that is confirmed, people will worry. I personally have no intention of leveling a character and all the jobs all over again just because i don't like the server later on.

Also your solution solves nothing, my issue is i don't want to pick between friends. If i go to the EU server based on your solution, then I'm picking my EU friends over my NA or JP, and the same applies no matter where i go.

I'm surprised my mentioning how some people choose the play WoW (as that's the game I was referencing) and presenting examples didn't quite register.

I only mention US => EU and EU => US as examples. I know of Japanese players that play on WoW US servers (look up GoW on Proudmoore and their amusing boss kill vids on youtube) and they get along just fine. Likewise, I've had guildmates from the EU that played with us on Sentinels and were fine with it. I've even had people from New Zealand and they didn't mind the latency difference because they liked being in our guild.

As I said, I tried playing on an EU server once. Then tried Oceanic. I decided I didn't like the latency between my PC and either server, so I went back to my US server. It works for some, not for others. I don't see why it would be any different in XIV's case.

You can still play with them, just join the server they're on. No one is forcing anyone to switch server, if lag is no issue for you or your friends then stay on the server your on now. If your friends want to switch to a server located in their region then that's their choice. You can either follow them or not. This is no different than allowing players to switch to Ragnarok when it came out, now we just have the choice to pick a server located in our region if we suffer from lag on the japanese server and find it annoying.

So here's an interesting fact; Japanese people don't want to play with you. They're the ones who pushed for this the most. Stop crying over it. It's not like you were doing content with them anyway.

If you are really this close to your one or two friends from the UK convince them to play on the same server as you, or go to theirs.

I think the big difference here is how smoothly WoW runs versus how crappy FFXIV runs when it comes down to encounters like Ifrit that there's no room for error or latency will kill you.

We've already been promised that the server code will be better, so I think the core of the game will run better regardless of where the servers are. Just the way things have been presented about the regional servers and how people know the servers run RIGHT NOW, they're compelled to get on a server closer to them because they feel it'll make the gameplay better, and this will be true to an extent.

I feel at this point, the only way this can be reversed is for Yoshi-P to put some kinda content in the beta with some mechanics that require you to be very reactive on their new JP servers. A skilled linkshell such as BG can attempt said content and give an objective report about it. (I'm not saying BG is the end-all-be-all, but people DO tend to defer to them for strategies and such most of the time)

If people can notice the difference, then they will know they won't have to leave the servers they're currently on.
