I have over 100m so I guess I'll be putting some on a separate character pre launch.. This doesn't effect the economy at all because people like me will just put the money somewhere else. The prices of items will be exactly what people will pay for them just like it is now. This is simply to make it more of a pain in the ass for RMT I believe.

You know there are better ways to knock gil out of the economy than just screwing the rich over. They just need to give those players some kind of incentive to actually dish out the gil and that's actually where most of the problem lies.

    Examples:
Custom Potions Maker- NPC that can create your own custom potion, price varies on factors like duration, how many buffs, numerical value of buffs, will it last after death, etc. (IE if you want to be able to solo Garuda or an alliance mob, then by all means make one for a price!) It will still benefit non super-rich players as well.
Guild Halls- I made a huge post about this a while back, but making guild halls with upgrades for a hefty sum gives big incentive for players to spend their gil and create their own little "man-cave" of sorts for their friends.
Costume Maker- People love the opportunity to wear specific gear while still wearing their best equipment. I can easily see this as a way to milk money from players.
Assistance Make it Pricey- When it comes to raising chocobos or gardening I imagine they're will be some sort of assistance NPC that helps keeps things going while your away. Make the help cost a pretty coin to take care of every little aspect for you and I'm sure it will knock out some gil out of the system.

Not by any means perfect, and I'm sure not everyone will buy it, but still it's alot more incentive for players to spend their gil rather than hold onto it with nothing to spend it on.

This is indeed nice suggestions.. but with cap still at a billion this would give even more incentive for RMT.

Anyone else that understands Japanese can confirm.
He does say in 2.0 he will decrease players gil by 1 digit as well here

He doesn't say whats going to happen to those players with 1 billion+ gil but how they going to manage those players when the system is going to knock off 1 digit to balance the overall economy?? He does say it will be announced in topics with details so probably have to wait till then for this one imo. System wise I don't see how you can keep those gil when there is a cap unless they let you transfer to another character or something.

If those things are going to be expensive enough to actually make a dent in the money of the ultra rich players, do you think that the poorer players will get a chance at doing them? (The answer is no.)

If those things are going to be cheap enough to actually be doable by the poorer players, do you think that it's going to change the situation for the ultra rich players? (The answer is no.)

If these are completely optional to gameplay, do you think that most, or even a big chunk, of the ultra rich will dump their money into them instead of saving them for other more "important" things? (The answer is no.)

They need to shrink the money gap so new players aren't at a huge disadvantage, and the best way to do that is by literally taking the money away from the ultra rich players. It sucks and it's not an easy to make decision, but it's the only viable decision.

Your decisions are good for the game regardless, but imagine if changing the looks of your gear cost 1 mil per item. That's enough to put a dent in the pockets of people with maxed gil, but do you really think that new players or characters are going to be able to have access to that?

It might make more sense if there are thresholds for how much something costs, i.e. when you are below 5 mil, the reskin cost is ~1% of your gil, above 5 mil it's ~5%, above 300 mil it's ~15%, etc. But it's just easier to take away the money from the super rich.

You'll be making your gil all over again more or less at the same rate that everyone else is. That's intended.

What this does is it's going to allow newer and poorer players to catch up in money, so they can actually buy the rarer things -- which are now priced by and for the ultra rich players (and RMT).

This isn't bad for anyone, regardless of how much money they have, because it happens to everyone simultaneously.

If you had 10x more cash than another player before, you will still have it after. A world wide economy change like this isn't necessarily needed, but it does make the numbers smaller and easier for everyone to deal with.

Its the difference between counting everything in pennies or pounds. except because Gil has no smaller derivative they are manually adjusting it, something easily done with a virtual currency.

This is how I understand it as well and makes sense with what Reinheart posted above.

If you have 300 mil, it becomes 30 mil.
If you have 90 mil, it become 9 mil.

Person 1 still has the same % more then person b.

Everyone that thinks they just lop you off to 99 mil if your over 100 mil is dreaming. (think about it, how is that remotely fair lol)
