Onto the topic at hand, I can't see this as being a bad thing. I think MMOs need justified length, and the whole ideal of pushing towards end-game needs to change, enjoying the journey is great. As long as the 30 hour length is without grind, and without boredem; nobody will even notice and have a great time doing so.
Yes, that for me is what made ffxi so amazing was the journey to the end. I'm hoping this is one way of him changing how mmos work.

I hope reads can look past the 'Rokien' brand and think about this seriously. I do ponder about levelling up in 2.0.
Personally, I'd love it to be slower, too.

    But 30 hours seems extortionate!
    They wont, but whatevs~

well as jyxn said if you are efficent it will probably take 10, even than that's a pretty good pace. If they make those 30+ hours fun, BRING IT!

Correct. I spent around a year getting my first job to 30 on XI; I spent most of it enjoying the world, enjoying the lore, spending time with friends, exploring etc. It is a good point you raise, and I hope people remember just what XI was like. As long as the grind is eliminated and the journey is fun, that's the best thing.

I have a theory on this.

For new players, their first 50 is going to be speedy due to being propelled by quests and all that stuff. And that's fine, the game's more fun when you have at least 1 level 50.

However, their next and subsequent 50s are going to require more time due to a lot of repeated dungeon grinding. Yes it'll still be grinding. For some people, they won't bother.

There will be less people with every job leveled.

This forces careful class choosing among the new playerbase. This promotes class identity and emotional connection to a player's avatar. In addition, it makes characters unique. Less jobblobs, to coin a term.

Rofl sooo fuckin true! As soon as I read the first sentence I started groaning lol. Bahaha +1

As for the thread: 30 hours to get to 15 sounds fine. And really its probably shorter than that. Ppl always find the fastest way to get things done. Yoshi is talking about a brand new player learning the game. Clearly ppl like us wont take 30 hours to get to lvl 15.

Yes, that could be true, but I think he was talking about the first job/class. It also seems like those 30 hours is mostly going to be doing the main storyline, which if it's good, I wouldn't mind that. You could be right though. He does want people 50 but that just seems that's his mentality for V1.x

Of course, of course. Though the big question of them all, what would sidetrack us? He said 15 is party play, so that's when dungeons will be in. What else will be there for us to do at that low level. Because that is another complaint I have is the lack of low level content. It makes me excited to see that.

Hmm well I hope interesting and rewarding sidequests. FF games have always been famous for them. What they need to do is add quests that give you good weapons for your lvl. Encourage ppl to branch out a bit. I never felt the urge to do sidequests in 1.0 so hopefully theyve done something to fix that.

It's a bit short IMHO considering 30 hours will probably be consolidated into less than 10 for optimal exp. I'd say 4 weeks (60 hoursish) is a comfortable time to spend leveling a job.

Of course that is if the game has any content for anything other than cap.
Rokien does bring up a good point. I've always wondered how long it would take us to level in ARR due to the increased exp total we need to gain when we get higher in level. At least I got all of my jobs to Lv30-35, but not my other classes (I was trying to get my battle classes high before my crafting and gathering classes later on).

I mean, FFXI pissed me off with the MISERABLE exp we got when fighting monsters. Finding a party was always hard for me because of homework and such when I was in high school and college. So, I prefered to solo a lot of the time when playing FFXI (I could also farm that way as well). But yeah, I stopped playing FFXI due to the horrid exp gains
