    30 hours or less?

Hello everyone, Rokien again! I hope everyone is having a good week, I know I'm having a great week!

I would like to talk about leveling again~ I know, you don't want to, but it is an interesting topic, especially because nobody has brought up how long it takes to level(that I have seen).
In a yoshi-p interview, yoshi said it would take 30 hours to get to level 15, if you don't get sidetracked. Now, that brings up a lot of questions, or maybe just a few.

*How long is it going to get to cap from level 15?
*Is there THAT many quests, or is it going to be a mix of everything?
*What will sidetrack us? What low level content are they going to be added, because level 15 is party play, so dungeons won't be till then(probably).
*If level 15 is ideal party time, does that mean quests will turn into party quests, or all party stuff will be dungeons/raids?

I can keep going but I think that covers at least the jist of it. I'm bringing this up because this is one thing that I and other have complained about, the leveling speed of 1.x. I am very pleased, even if it is just quest based leveling/grinding/whatever. I'm happy to see that at least 1-15 is going to be the length of at least a single player game. That just brings the door wide open post 15! As much as I complain, I am excited to see what is going to happen with the game.

Here is what Yoshi said: "... For myself I am thinking of level 15 as an ideal level for setting up a party and trying out a dungeon. If you don’t sidetrack to get to that point probably would take about 30 hours....If the starting point is too fast it would make the later stages hard, also if you try to cram everything at once you can’t remember them. By learning the official you have to use them several times or you won't learn it, thinking of that it’s about 30 hours. If you play 2 hours a day it’s about 2 weeks timing. If you’re playing just for efficiency you could probably get through much faster (laugh)"

As always thanks for teh translation Reinheart!

    Please, hate, discuss and argue!

It's getting worse with each passing post.

Onto the topic at hand, I can't see this as being a bad thing. I think MMOs need justified length, and the whole ideal of pushing towards end-game needs to change, enjoying the journey is great. As long as the 30 hour length is without grind, and without boredem; nobody will even notice and have a great time doing so.

Yes, that for me is what made ffxi so amazing was the journey to the end. I'm hoping this is one way of him changing how mmos work.

Correct. I spent around a year getting my first job to 30 on XI; I spent most of it enjoying the world, enjoying the lore, spending time with friends, exploring etc. It is a good point you raise, and I hope people remember just what XI was like. As long as the grind is eliminated and the journey is fun, that's the best thing.

    Agreed!

I think one of the things XI had going against it for a long time was that it had tons of endgame content. Compared to everyone else you didn't feel like you've even started unless you were 75. The levels between 1 and Cap should not look like a barrier. As you said, they should be a journey. There is a reason I refuse to be power-leveled. I want to be absolutely sure that when I hit level cap I know what all of my actions are, when to use them, and I have them arranged for optimal efficiency. I would rather have that all figured out BEFORE I start endgame, rather than burden the rest of the party with letting me figure it out while they all die.

Unfortunately in the current game Yoshi-P has taken measures to make lvl25 fun, but things like the Horizon caravan and Toto-Rak get a little old. At 45 you can do most endgame stuff, but you can't expect an invite unless you're 50. Before and between those two levels there is very little to do. You can do the main scenario quests as you level your first class, but apart from that there's nothing besides gear upgrades to look forward to at, say, lvl20. Sure you can do leve achievements, but that sort of feels like a desperate attempt at finding stimulation.

    Inb4 unjustified rage.

It's a bit short IMHO considering 30 hours will probably be consolidated into less than 10 for optimal exp. I'd say 4 weeks (60 hoursish) is a comfortable time to spend leveling a job.

Of course that is if the game has any content for anything other than cap.

Ya, besides quests I wonder what other activities will there be for us? I know dungeons, though, I don't really expect dungeons to start post 15, because that's when he wants party play. So, nm hunting?

Rokien does bring up a good point. I've always wondered how long it would take us to level in ARR due to the increased exp total we need to gain when we get higher in level. At least I got all of my jobs to Lv30-35, but not my other classes (I was trying to get my battle classes high before my crafting and gathering classes later on).

I mean, FFXI pissed me off with the MISERABLE exp we got when fighting monsters. Finding a party was always hard for me because of homework and such when I was in high school and college. So, I prefered to solo a lot of the time when playing FFXI (I could also farm that way as well). But yeah, I stopped playing FFXI due to the horrid exp gains
