The fight was JUST released today... It's unrealistic to expect the entire population to be able to beat it already.
His melee swings are so laggy it reminds me of Ifrit cracks. 1.0 limitations at its best.
You get hit by the first swing and then pushed back yes? Then you get hit by a second swing even though you are supposed to be out of range from the first swing, then followed by a drain. I get frustrated more at these servers we play on then the boss battle itself.
Oh and the lack of a distance meter so we can tell how far we need to stand outside his AOE, because honestly his swing is bigger then his animation.

Get new BLMS.
We had a BLM who JUST dinged 50 a couple days ago and in mostly AF solo the meteors. Thunder -> Thundara takes them out. The only time when meteors need additional people killing them is when the boss ports to the top and starts channeling. Then you put 2 BLMs on one mid-platform and 1 BLM/1BRD on the other platform while the rest of the DD goes top to keep the boss from regening too much. After boss ports back to the bottom, you can keep just 1 BLM at mid platform to deal with meteors again. You can even just have the BRD stay with him if you want the extra security.

I think a lot of us have old LS mates and friends we met along the way and miss...heck maybe even RL friends who only come back to check out a patch here or there, and I understand, you WANT them to have fun and enjoy something so maybe they will stay...or stick around in 2.0.
And maybe some of them will...
But most, well if they don't have the patience to try to beat and work on one battle for more than a couple hours, before giving up, 2.0 isn't gonna be 'More Fun' for them. Sure, SE is promising tiered content and content finders etc, but the battles that people want to do for stuff people actually want, are gonna take more than 10 tries on average to beat...especially if you are doing them before strategies etc. are known.
I know it is hard, to hear, but these folks aren't going to be happy in-game one way or the other. Make it too easy=well that was lame and they quit. Make it something that has a slight learning curve= it's too complicated and they quit.

Darnus down on Balmung.
It isn't a hard fight, you just need to learn the strategy. We wiped time after time, and then we figured out the strategy and we dominated him. Suffice it to say, it was an incredibly intense fight. My heart was pounding at the end. Such a rush.
Yoshida, you did an absolutely outstanding job on the battle. Kudos to the entire team! Loved it.
Will be posting our win video tomorrow. But our composition was two WHM, two BLM, one BRD, one WAR, one DRG, and yours truly on Monk.
We won with 2 WHM, 2 BLM, 3 BRD and 1 WAR. (Can also be done with intelligent melee)
When we got him to the point where he teleported to prepare for Megaflare, we had 2 BLM a WHM and a BRD on one side, two BRD and a WHM on the other side, and the WAR was waiting below.
We didn't know you had to damage him in this phase to force him to use Megaflare, so we literally stood there for a good 7 minutes just fending off falling meteorites while the golems were slept.
When sleep started getting resisted, the WHMs TANKED the golems. They don't hit for much and a WHM can easily outcure what little damage they take.
We were afraid our WAR would get one shot once Megaflare happened, so he hung back for a bit before we realized Darnus was regenerating his HP. He was at about half before we moved in to engage. We left the meteors in the hands of the BLM who had no problem holding them back while we went to whittle away Darnus's HP.
Shortly after, he used Megaflare. Because we allowed no meteors to hit the ground, it did about 1900 damage.
We all ran back down to the lower level and assumed our phase 2 positions again. He was back at half HP, but once since it's simply Phase1/2 tactics again, it was a win.
I don't think this fight is too hard. I think it's absolutely perfect in difficulty. Hard enough to be a worthy challenge, easy enough for people to actually do it.
When did the definition of "casual" become "someone who can't beat challenging things"?
