IMO a linkshell needs players as much as the player needs the linkshell, so if they ask you questions such as, Why do you feel you should get a spot in the LS or what qualities would you bring to the Linkshell, I would suggest you walk away right then and there.

This is a game not a job.

That being said everyone is different and expect different things from liskshells and guilds, if you are looking for a social linkshell you should probably shout in Ul'dah for exactly that.

If you are looking for an endgame linkshell though you should probably be prepared to jump through hoops, be treated like the new guy and wait your turn for loot, that's the way it works in all MMO's.
