the comprehension skills of this forum are astoundingly below average. instead of labeling someone as an entitled brat, use your brains, read, and think before you type.

generalizing about linkshells being ran with imputinous elitism, their massive exclusion, and how they are detrimental to the game as a whole is not entitlement whatsoever.

Are you seriously calling attention to the fact that "most people in shout" agreed with you like that means anything positive? I don't think I've ever read a single conversation in shout that didn't make me immediately blist anywhere from one to all of the participants involved. Well, of course you are! You're also the same person who uses random "ten dollar" words (some of them not even legit!) to make themselves sound smarter, even though they haven't learned to use capitalization or to clearly define what it is they're even saying! Don't make LSes exclusive or inclusive, obviously! They have to be just right! Haven't you ever read "The Story of the Three Bears"!?

So, yeah. Keep trolling. Enjoy! If you actually believed what you were saying, you wouldn't have said it. You'd have just made an LS of your own and pearled everyone you ever met. You should try it out and tell us how it goes.

this ^, ladies and gentlemen, sums up the majority of the internet.

when you have NOTHING of substance to say, you goto insulting people, the most pathetic being spelling and or grammar.

i mean, just, wow. how much more pathetic can it get?

    @cookiebandit

normal MMOs arent full of guilds/clans/whatever that make you have to fill out an app with a million questions, qualifications, and references. they usually have a person recruiting others just to have a fun time. oh, and because the game isn't so dead, we can usually just ask if anyone wants to come to play with us, without having to exclude someone because they dont fit our criteria.

So you're pulling the "but in other MMOs..." card? Sorry to say, but many decent guilds in other actual MMOs will normally have some sort of member screening, let it be via application, in-game interview via tells, progress/gear/performance checks or a member trial period which is doable due to a less restricting member cap and management system, especially for larger guilds.

Here's some differences between this game's LS system and any other MMO's guild system:

    Linkshells:
    • Can be in multiple LS at a time
    • 128 member cap
    • No ability to kick offline players for being inactive

Now, because of the limited space and inability to kick people who decide to up and vanish on any given day, some LSes tend to have a simple application or interview process that takes all of a few minutes to complete in order to...
    1. Make sure you'll actually be a contributing member of the LS, not someone who is always negative or tosses the pearl on to fill up party slots.
    2. Get an idea of whether or not you'll actually be sticking around.

Hitting cap due to inactives and/or officer dodgers (in a less-managed LS) means having to re-shell, which leads to unnecessary headache to both the leaders as well as the members of an organized shell, let alone for a random pickup shell without any form of outside communication. Since I'm in a larger, organized LS which has had to re-shell a number of times since launch, I know how annoying it gets. Sure it's nice to see a huge chunk of your members together that you normally wouldn't, but the fact is that it takes up time that did not need to be taken.

Now, we'll use the evil W as an example for a guild system:
    • Can be in 1 guild per character
    • 1000 member cap
    • Ability to boot offline/inactive members

Real guild systems don't have to deal with the annoyances that we have to. Exponentially higher caps, the ability to boot members whenever the kicker sees fit, and the fact that you are bound to 1 guild and do not have to worry about members hopping between their other groups to fill in slots. Regardless of what you seem to believe, many mid to high-end guilds in other games have some sort of screening process.

Most guilds that take in any member they can pick up are more or less a new community every month with new players joining and others leaving on a constant basis. Having been in more than one of those types in the game that shall not be named, it's a bit depressing coming from XI/XIV to not have a semi-consistent roster.

That being said, linkshells are not designed to be real guild systems and were never intended to be. Not in XI, not in this game with the way Tanaka designed them. That's the role that Free Companies will be taking come 2.0.
